I was thinking about how great King used to be when he was a heel, and it got me thinking about how WWE and TNA have no heel commentators. That is four all face pairings in mainstream American wrestling. Considering how entertaining it can be to have a heel commentator causing tension between the two, I really don't see why WWE made a conscious decision to make King a face. It just makes the product seem more boring. JBL was a great heel commentator too, but his return to the ring has left them with none. Who wants to hear two commentator's agree about everything the whole time when you can have a guy speaking out for the heels? Its either hilarious, or it helps you see things from the heel's perspective, which is important, because for a heel to be great, you need to understand why they are acting the way they are even if you don't agree with it.
It is little things like this which contribute to the overall horrible staleness of wrestling today. Little things which used to provide great entertainment. The King, Paul Heyman and JBL were all epic heel commentators who really contributed to my overall enjoyment of the product.

I miss heel commentators. Even if it was a Batista match, I could get through it by listening to Cole cream himself over Tistsa then JBL pwning him. JR and King's banter was always classic, but I think JBL was the best heel commentator in a long time, although nothing can top Bobby Heenan.
Face/face commentating is so bland it isn't even funny anymore.
Cole: Triple H is awesome!
Tazz: I agree!
Striker in a heel role would be insanely awesome, he's got all the skills to do a great job and belittle Grish at every chance he could get.
I agree mostly, but at the same time rewatching older stuff and having the commentators argue and yell at each other all the way through the match is fucking annoying.

I like that. It's either funny, or it just makes the angle/match seem a bigger deal. Two guys arguing about it is better than two guys agreeing that the heel is in the wrong. It is similar to the way the faces are always portrayed as so much better than heels now. I know they have always been 'the better man', but now its as if they don't even want a commentator to voice the opinion that the heel may be in the right.
Like I said, a heel is only great if you can see things from their perspective, even if you don't necessarily agree with it. Heel commentators help this.
Imagine the Invasion angle with two face WWF guys on commentary. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I always loved how one commentator would be shitting it that a guy used dirty tactics to gain the upper hand, and then the other commentator would be going in to bat for the other guy, using like if the referee didn't see it then it ain't illegal and all that stuff. I miss hearing all that, and of course, the constant ownage on Cole from JBL. That needs to happen more often >_>.
