The title is pretty much self-explanatory: What are some of the most shocking heel turns in wrestling history?
I will start with an obvious one from when I was a huge fan (and pretty much a mark) back in 2001. Austin siding with McMahon to screw the Rock out of the WWF title at Wrestlemania X7. After everything they had been through during the Attitude Era in one of the most memorable and personal feuds ever, this just seemed like the ultimate betrayal of the fans. Austin truly had 'sold his soul'.

The obvious choice is Hulk Hogan at Bash at the Beach 1996. For close to 14 years, Hogan was the top babyface in North America. Then suddenly, after just one night he becomes to top heel. It was an extremely risky move, but it ended up paying off for WCW in a huge way.

Everyone is gonna go with Hogan joining/forming NWO at Bash at the Beach 1996, But not me, I'm going with Stone Cold turning on Rock to side with mcmahon. Insane, I was shocked, He sided with the "devil" to win back the WWF Championship.

I never understood why Austin sided with McMahon just to beat Rocky. Austin defeated The Rock at IYH: DX, the Raw before WM 14, WM 15 and Backlash 1999. Why would he suddenly need help to defeat the man that had never beaten him?

This is the WWE, stuff that happened more than a month ago must be forgotten about.
Apart from the aforementioned Hogan & Austin turns, one I thought was pretty surprising was Chavo turning on Rey at GAB 2006. Sure, he didn't do much after, but I at the time was pretty shocked.

It was shocking?
Let's look back at Great American Bash 2006.
Great American Bash July 23, 2006 - Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana
It was the 2 year anniversary (GAB 2004) that Mysterio defeated Chavo for the CW title.
The one year anniversary (GAB 2005) of Mysterio defeating Chavo's uncle Eddie.
In the same arena and just 2 days away from the 4 year anniversary, Rey Mysterio made his WWE debut defeating Chavo Guerrero.
---
Chavo already showed in the past that he would turn on people he was close with (Eddie). But especially that event in that arena at that time of the year, Mysterio should of known not to trust Chavo.

I never really paid attention to the time of year or arena, I really don't think that made a difference. You're points make it seem like it isn't that shocking, but at the time I really didn't suspect it as their were no real hints or motivation otherwise.

Well obviously since Austin got 'run over' and was out of the game for almost a year, The Rock had evolved and improved in all areas, becoming a far more formidable opponent. The Rock was kicking out of everything, and this was the first time they had faced with The Rock truly on the same level as Austin. They also let it be known before the PPV that Austin had become obsessed with being WWF Champion and nothing else mattered to him, even things like loyalty, honour etc. I guess he HAD to make sure he won, and The Rock was not the same wrestler he had faced in previous encounters.

But Rock had just been without the World title for a few months. Rocky had even heels like Kurt Angle kicking out of his moves. While Austin had been damn near unbeatable (Minus the NWO loss to Hunter) since returning, The Rock wasn't. Add in the fact that Rock just barely won the title at No Way Out while Austin won the Royal Rumble (Something Rock wasn't able to do).
Granted, Austin had been out for a year, but during that time, Rock was wrestling day in and day out. The Rikishi feud especially left Rocky far from 100 percent.
I just don't see the logic in having Austin side with McMahon because he's worried that he can't beat The Rock when he already had and Rock hadn't proved that he could beat him.

Austin was looking damn good, but the point I am making is that firstly, The Rock was capable of beating anybody on his day by this stage, and secondly, Steve Austin's obsession with regaining the title after his injury had become so unhealthy that he was willing to go to any lengths possible to ENSURE that he was walking out of the Astrodome with that WWF title belt. Even if there was a chance of a Rock victory without Vince's help, Austin was so obsessed with the title that he would prefer to side with his old enemy to eliminate the chance of Rock winning. Surely you are not saying that the Rock, as big a star as he was by that stage, didn't have a chance?
As I said, Rock could beat anybody on his day, and the two men seemed pretty equal to me.
