This is often a big debate among wrestling fans. They are without doubt two of the greatest of all time, and both were involved in some of the most memorable moments in wrestling, including one of the most controversial and infamous incidents in the history of the sport. Both have different styles, and both are considered by their fans to be the very best of all time, but just who is better?
Let the debate commence.

Shawn Michaels. People often state that HBK's matches tend to be somewhat predictable but for me, Bret Hart screamed predictability. As great as he was, you could pretty much predict most of his matches. Then factor in the lack of charisma and his poor (but better by the end of his career) mic skills, and Shawn Michaels wins without a doubt. If it were just about in ring work, it'd be a closer battle but when it comes to the overall presence and ability, HBK wins without a shadow of a doubt.

Bret was undoubtably the better as far as techinique goes. I'd have to say I prefer Hart by quite a bit. I mean, when I think of the guy's most famous matches (vs Owen, vs Austin, vs Perfect), those matches are all fantastic in my opinion. When I think of HBK's most famous matches (vs Taker, vs Ramon, vs Angle, vasious others) I'd say most are fairly overated. Not saying that HBK is bad or hasn't had his share of classics, of course not, just that sometime's he's more hype than anything. HBK also has some of the most annoying habits I've ever seen in wrestling like his retardedly over-the-top blade jobs, his annoying over-selling, etc. Hrt was part of the group that showed audiences that technical wrestling on it's own with no BS can be great and had a very positive influence on wrestling. You just have to look at Wrestlemania X for my view on it.... Bret/Owen = the best PPV opener ever, first real match to show technical wrestling on it's own is appealing, meanwhile HBK/Ramon = overated spotfest that influenced a bunch of other spotfests.
But the one area HBK has a clear win is his charisma. It's no secret Bret was never that charismatic whereas HBK is probably one of the most charisma filled ever. As far as mic work goes, HBK annihilates Bret.
I'd say HBK is better in the other areas, but when it comes down to who was the better wrestler and who had the better matches, Hart wins 100% from me.
Hart is probably top 3 North American wrestlers of all time I'd say.

Along with who?
And as many may have predicted, I am going with HBK. I think being a great wrestler is about having great matches, not necessarily being technically better. Shawn Michaels has had far more great matches than Bret in my opinion, and has much more electricity about him. He knows how to really get the fans into his matches and most of his best matches are extremely dramatic. We are talking about entertainment, and I find Shawn by far the most entertaining.
Bret Hart was a great wrestler and would be near the top of my list of favorite wrestlers, but HBK would actually be at the top of that list. Bret produced some amazing matches but I think Shawn Michaels is a better entertainer and not as predictable in the ring.

Can you please elaborate a little on how Hart was predictable please?
Whenever I hear HBK being put in a stipulation match I automatically know theres going to be a retarded bladejob, some recycled spots and maybe lots of punching the air while the ref asks him if he's ok. That is before the ban on it of course.
Flair, Austin, Hart would be my top three of all time btw.

With a lot of Hart matches, you can basically predict what move he is going to do before he does it. He had a lot of the same moves which he did in the same order in pretty much every match. The ones working on the leg mainly.

Let's see, every "big match" had a figure four leg lock using the ring post while every match got the elbow from the second rope, sharpshooter, chopblocks, and the same basic leg work. I rarely recall him mixing it up from match to match, not just the amount of moves either as you know or should know that's not what I mean ,but just the order and how he does it. Just so repetitive where you can call ti seconds before it happens. Like with HHH now >.>
Edit: The more I remember some of his old matches the more I remember he targeted the back over the legs in most cases. He wasn't really that repetitive but idk. It just wasn't as thrilling and as said, it was predictable. You could say the same about HBK but I feel he is far less predictable especially in order of moves.

Oh gee, I wonder who you'll choose. The person you agree with in the screw job, the guy you love and even use the avy of, or a guy you consider vastly overrated. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
