WrestleMania 23: John Cena Defeated Shawn Michaels
WrestleMania 24: Shawn Michaels Defeated Rick Flair.
Which one was your favourite?
WrestleMania 12 was without a doubt historic, Michaels entered on a zip-wire and won his first WWE World Championship. WrestleMania 14 was called His Last Match by many until he returned in 2002. WM 14's Match also features Shawn losing the title to New-Badass Style wrestler Stone cold Steve Austin who would soon be the best Wrestler of the 1990's. WrestleMania 24, The show when Michaels retired Flair. WrestleMania 21, He had an awesome match against Kurt Angle which was dubbed Match Of The Year by many.
Quite a few good matches, Which was your favourite and why?
WrestleMania 6: The Orient Express (Sato and Tanaka) (with Mr. Fuji) defeated The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty). It had some good spots, but very underwhelming. It doesn't help matters that the finish was a CO and it was the bad version of O.E.
WrestleMania 7: The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty) defeated The Barbarian and Haku (with Bobby Heenan). One of the best opening matches in WM history. And yet, most people never talk about it.
WrestleMania 8: Shawn Michaels (with Sensational Sherri) defeated Tito Santana. I haven't seen this in years, but I remember it being not as good as it should have been. Nothing more than Michaels first major match to show off his new gimmick.
WrestleMania 9: Tatanka (with Sensational Sherri) defeated Shawn Michaels (with Luna Vachon) by countout. I've heard some people praise this match, but I never saw what was so special. A month long build was such a letdown for a once mighty title.
WrestleMania 10: Razor Ramon defeated Shawn Michaels. Michaels first MOTYC. All around great match and the historic significance even better.
WrestleMania 11: Diesel (with Pamela Anderson) defeated Shawn Michaels (with Sid and Jenny McCarthy). It's been years since I've seen this, but it was decent. Michaels wasn't ready to be a main eventer and due to that, the match didn't have a WM feel to it.
WrestleMania 12: Shawn Michaels (with Jose Lothario) defeated Bret Hart 45 minutes in...and yet barely anything happened. Hands down, my least favorite WWE Title match at WM ever.
WrestleMania 14: Steve Austin defeated Shawn Michaels. Hurt back and all, Michaels puts on one "Last" great match. It's the match that officially began the Attitude Era. At this point, easily one of Steve's top 5 matches in the WWE.
WrestleMania 19: Shawn Michaels Defeated Chris Jericho. Solid match, but vastly overrated. It's no doubt they put on a good match, but people treat this as if it's a modern day classic.
WrestleMania 20: Chris Benoit defeated Triple H and Shawn Michaels One of the few times that a mult-men match actually worked and felt meaningful for a WM main event. It's a bit overrated just it's the one that was at the bigger PPV and saw the title change (I still prefer their Backlash match). Still, the easily named match of the night. The post match events is one of the most memorable moments in wrestling.
WrestleMania 21: Kurt Angle Defeated Shawn Michaels. Another match that I just don't see what's so special. It had some good moments, but for an Angle/Michaels match, I expected something that should come close to 5 stars, not struggle to get past 3 1/2 stars.
WrestleMania 22: Shawn Michaels Defeated Vince McMahon It still surprises me that Vince still books himself in matches. While it's entertaining, if you've seen one Vince match, you've seen them all.
WrestleMania 23: John Cena Defeated Shawn Michaels Solid match and what you could expect with a match between the two. Much like WM 22's title match, the crowd made it even better.
WrestleMania 24: Shawn Michaels Defeated Ric Flair Great emotion and Michaels flat out carried Flair to his best match in years. As much as I love to shit on Michaels, he deserves all the praises for this match.
Which one was your favourite? Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels - WM X
If there's one thing about Michaels, it's that he's always been so overrated. When a guy is known as Mr Wrestlemania, you'd expect much better matches than the ones he's given. However, WM X was the big exception. It's meaningful for two main reasons. The first is that it really gave inspiration to all future spotty ladder matches (Although this one mixed it with psychology). The second is sadly, this was about the end of the prestige years of the IC title. They really just failed to do anything too special with the title after this match.

How can you praise the Ladder match and call the triple threat and Jericho match overated?
Maybe it's because I've watched it recently rather than at the time, but I found the ladder match to be one of the most overated matches ever. Jeez, if you're going to have a spotfest atleast prevent it from being a total snoozefest.
I havent seen the Angle match in a long time, though I'll re-watch it soon, and I remember the Jericho match being awesome, as was the Cena match. The Austin match too is really, really great. Def one of the top WM main events ever. I'll say I think the triple threat is the best match there, but then again Michaels didn't have that much to do with it being great. If we're talking about his best performance at Wrestlemania then I'll go for the Flair match for the obvious reasons.
uh-ohz

The WM XX triple threat, the WM 19 match with Jericho and the WM21 match with Angle.
I have all these events on dvd and have watched each match several times. Amazing stuff. I don't really see how matches like the Angle and Jericho ones are overrated, because for me they did everything a wrestling match should. So much drama and surprises throughout. Nobody can get the crowd into a match like Michaels, and these matches were amazing with so much back and forth action, counters etc. I like them both for similar reasons but I think I actually prefer the Jericho one.
I agree with Steve in that it seems ridiculous to call them overrated while saying the ladder match is something great. I know it was an innovative match which paved the way for future (better) ladder matches, but should we call something a great match just for this reason? As far as the actual match goes, those two blow it out of the water.
I love the triple threat and the Angle match, but I think the Jericho one is my personal fave. Any of those three matches would be a great pick though.

My fave HBK match is the Iron Man Match at WrestleMania 12. I still enjoyed this match even though it did get a bit boring. The final 5 mins were amazing and the match going to sudden death over time was just great. BTW i was rooting for Bret in that match, but i had no problem with HBK winning. The boyhood dream finally came true for HBK.
I also enjoyed the Ladder match at WrestleMania 10. Classic match.
I do think that Michaels vs. Jericho is highly overrated, but I thought him vs. Angle was great. It had everything to make a good match. It had a pretty good backstory, there was a wide variety of wrestling during the match. It got technical in some parts, but there was also speed and high flying in others. They set a great pace in the match, and I really didn't know who was going to win. So many close falls, and these falls were actually believable. The triple threat match was great, and HBK definitely made a great addition. The Iron man match was good, but it got kind of boring. I think part of that is is that most of watched it on tape/DVD later. I bet it had a whole different feeling to it if you watched it live.

Since when does calling something overrated mean it's terrible? Overrated just means that you believe people rate the match too high. Both matches were very good and was a top highlight of the show. However, I just don't feel it's as good as some make it out to be.
The ladder match wasn't even meant to be a spotfest. This isn't your worthless Jeff Hardy ladder match. At the time, you had two of the company's most talented man being in a match that most people had never seen before. Because of that, it blew people away. As far as long term effects go, the triple threat and Jericho/Michaels can't even compare to what the ladder match did for the business. Just fast forward a year, and both matches were rather irrelevant with Benoit back to being a midcarder and Jericho/Michaels being nothing more than a fun feud that Vince and company believed could be a good match. To this day, the ladder match's ripples are still being felt.

It is not all about what the match did for the business, because then we could only name old matches as the best. Just because it was revolutionary and paved the way for a lot of future matches, doesn't mean it is the best actual match.
For the record, imo Hardy vs Undertaker > that match, so a Hardy ladder match is superior. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
You can't call that a spotfest either, it had a great story behind it and didn't really rely on spots.

I wasn't inferring that you said they were terrible, just that I found it ironic that out of all the matches there, those two are the "overated" ones.

And at no point during this did you explain what is good about the match itself. You just said it was influential, and yeah ok it is, but just because some thing is influential doesn't make it the best. Was the action good? The story-telling? The emotion? Were the spots even that impressive? I'd say no. I'd rather take the spotfest of Wrestlemania 2000 because atleast they attempted some story-telling in that match.
