It's been 10 months since Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin split up for the second time. Originally, they were put together to be the full time (And I assumed long term) replacement for the team workrate tandem of Benoit and Kurt Angle. During their time together, they had some memorable matches with Benoit/Edge, Los Guerreros, and Mysterio/Kidman. After splitting apart from the WWE Draft in 2004, they would eventually be put back together nearly 3 years later in late 2006. Although they were together for roughly a year, they didn't do much besides being Heat regulars and facing the Hardys at One Night Stand.
During their time together, they won the WWE Tag Titles twice. However, did they live up to their potential?
Although they started off very strong, I have to say no. For whatever reason, as soon as the Basham Brothers were brought up, TWGTT were slowly phased out of being top heels. Their second time together, they were nothing more than a jobber heel team once again behind in rank to another unover heel team of Cade and Murdoch. Had they just waited a year or two longer before breaking them up, they might of been able come close to comparing with AMW or the Briscoes as being the top tag team after the collapse of the Monday Night War.
Thoughts on TWGTT? Best match together? Were they split up too soon?

I was actually going to post "Haas > Shelton" in the unpopular opinions thread before I saw this. >_>
I always thought that whule they were very good technically, they lacked personality and especially while under Angle's leadership, they were just lackeys. Sort of how like the Edgeheads are now, in an interesting comparison. I liked their reuinion, but they were just never used right, the biggest match of their reuinion last year was a spotfest with The Hardys in which WGTT had no place being there as the Hardys should have faced Cade & Murdoch. I think people may have underated their charisma at some points, they rarely got time to show it, but every now and then they had some entertaining skits, the one where they were hugging then Simmins comes in with the "DAMN" was pretty funny and showed that there is something there than just workrate to them.
I think they were broken up too soon, but they are a prime example of a good team suffering from the wwe's piss poor tag division. Favourite match? Probably the ladder match with Tajiri and Eddie though I'm having a hard time thinking of many matches from them I really enjoyed that much.
Going back to my first sentence, I really wish their roles were reversed now. Haas is showing alot of charisma and is getting over really nicely (and imo becoming a highlight of RAW) wheras Shelton is still stick in his "technically sound but lacking everything else" gear.

Whenever Hass and Benjamin have been teaming together they have had the potential but they have not lived up to it because someone has always been in their way. Bashams, Cade & Murdoch, (To a lesser extent)Spirit Squad.
Hass & Benjamin regularly jobbed to D-Generation-X in 2006-2007 and WWE used them as a team that can be easily stepped over by regular members of the WWE Roster. They spent some time on Heat where they wrestled some good matches, But i think its better that they stay alone.
Sort of how like the Edgeheads are now, in an interesting comparison.
I wish the Edgeheads would of been treated like Team Angle. Even though Haas and Benjamin were in lackey roles whenever they were with Angle, on their own (While still in Team Angle) they continued to be badasses beating teams like Benoit/Edge, Benoit/Rhyno, Los Guerreros and Edge/Kidman. That's the big difference between the two teams. Haas and Benjamin had an identity beyond just being Kurt's lackeys. It certainly didn't hurt matters that they were also booked on PPV regularly.

Spirit Squad? They weren't even teaming together again when the SS were still around.
My favorite Haas/Benjamin match would have to be their tag titles bout with Mysterio and Kidman from Vengeance 2003. Hands down one of the best tag matches since the brand extension.

Yes they was. In around June 06. and i was using them as an example of the Heel tag teams that Pushed Haas/Benjamin out of the lime-light.
TWGTT didn't team up again until December 2006. The Spirit Squad was disbanded just weeks before then. Only Kenny was around when Haas and Benjamin reformed their team.
You can't really push a team out of the lime light over 2 years after they were split up.

Steve I have to disagree with one thing... I see Shelton with a lot more charisma now than he once had. Maybe not to the level of Haas, but far more than he used to show and decent mic skills.
Anywho they were broken up a bit early but at the same time, I think both men unlike a lot of tag teams might be better off without one another. Specifically Shelton.
