So I finally got around to watching the famed No Mercy tag match (it is indeed epic), and it got me thinking was that the last really great tag match in the wwe? Looking back at the time, the wwe tag division was thriving with talent, but as soon as they split up those two teams (Edge/Rey and Benoit/Angle) who were the driving force of the division being great, it all seemed to fall apart and hasn't even come close to that standard since. I got thinking, has there actually been ANY great or particularly memorable tag matches in the wwe since 2002? And I mean great matches, not good as some people often hype matches up more than they desverve or any matches that were stand out for one reason or another. After looking back at some of the PPV results 2003 onwards I managed to count just 3(!) tag matches that ould fit that: Eddie/Tajiri vs Team Angle ladder match from Judgement Day 2003 (hardly spectacular, but wayyyyy too much fun), Team Funk vs Team Foley from One Night Stand 2006 (and even then, this was technically a 6-man match) and Rated RKO vs D-X from New Year's Revolution 2007.
Am I the only one who finds that apalling? 3 memorable matches from the last five years, and two of them could be argued as not counting at all. Am I missing any matches that were particularly great or memorable? Also, thoughts on if the wwe will EVER be able to produce great tag matches like they did all that time ago?

I think you are right and the One Night Stand and New Years Revolution matches are the ones that came to mind for me too, but then you look at the fact that they feature main eventers, and it kind of shows you just how bad tag team wrestling has been in WWE for quite a substantial period of time.

Edge and Rey Mysterio vs Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle (Smackdown '02 2/3 Falls) - Damn near perfect of a match. Getting this on free TV was a huge coup.
Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman vs TWGTT (Vengeance 2003) - Very little backstory other than Mysterio and Kidman winning a 4 way tag match to earn the right. But both teams tore the house down with this match. While I do feel as if Vengeance is overrated, this match deserves it's praise.

Being from 2002, I guess the first one doesn't qualify as 'since 2002'. >_>
The second one I don't remember, but even so, it was mid 2003. We are now getting towards the end of 2008. Only a couple of great tag matches in over 5 years is staggeringly bad.
It would be easy to come to the conclusion that it was the brand extension which fucked everything up.... good teams being on different brands etc. When did that happen? Oh yeah, 2002.

*Cough*POST-2002*cough*
Can't say I've seen the other tag match though. I've heard good things about Pitbulls/Londrick (Is that the match) from the Great American Bash too, but havent seen it either.

If 4 way ladder matches count, I'll add the Armageddon Ladder match to this. Easily, one of the best SD brand matches of the year.
And yes I know the 2/3 falls doesn't count. I was just thinking of ones starting after No Mercy. >_>
I guess the ladder match would have to count seeing as it was for the tag titles, but it does make it easier to have a great match when its a total spotfest with 8 guys rather than a standard tag match.

I wasn't criticizing the match, I was just saying that if there are only a couple of great tag matches since 2002, and one of them is a 4 way ladder match, it makes it even worse.
