The other day I was thinking about the current world champions from different countries and how many defences they have, and theres a huge difference between champions in the US and champions elsewhere. CM Punk has held the World title for just under three months and has defended the belt about 4 or 5 times with another shot this Sunday. Compare that to someone like Keiji Mutoh who won the IWGP championship back in April but has only made one title defence and had the second in the next month, theres a bit of a gap. My question is what style of title reign does more for the belt and champion, lots of defences with little or no build up or a few defences spaced out with plenty of build up?

Obviously more defenses, depending on who it's against, is better. I mean yeah, you could say that less defenses makes the title seem more prestige but when you're on weekly television and monthly PPV, doing one or two title defenses a year makes the title look like shit. Like with the IC title when it was never defended.

If a champion makes a defence every couple of weeks, it loses the excitement for PPV's. but its a big To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. I like when a champion defends about once a month, But there is the other side where the champion if he defends the title 5 times a month, he'll look super human! But for me, when a wrestler looks "super human!" like a certain Mr. Cena, it makes me bored and makes the champion boo'd because he looks like he's their for the kiddies. So More is definately Less!
It depends on the quality of the opponents. Personally, I'm more of a fan of less title defenses for the World Titles. This is supposed to be a very valuable title, so you should really have to earn a shot. Defending it a few times a month will most likely mean people are getting shots without earning them. Defending it less will also make when you do defend it on free TV an even bigger deal. Instead of being another random title match (Punk vs JBL) it could be something huge like The Showdown in the Desert (Michaels vs Benoit).
