I saw this on another forum and figured it'd be fun. Maybe we can do this for all the big WWE PPV's.
Imagine booking your own Summerslam with all the matches that have happened in the past since the beginning. It has to be the same finish, same amount of time, same people, same gimmick, same title if applicable. Rules:
-The show has to go about 3 hours (factor in entrances, videos, promos, etc. so not exactly 3)
-Not one wrestler can have a 2nd match (unless there's a best 2/3 falls match which to my memory is only Benoit/Y2J)
-A title can't be defended twice (you can't have Edge Vs. Cena for the WWE Title AND Shawn Vs Vader for the WWF Title. You can have the World Title, WCW Title, and WWE/WWF Title all defended though)
List why you chose it too in your opinion in trying to book the perfect Summerslam. Here's mine I did so you kind of have a format:
Mr. Perfect Vs Bret "Hitman" Hart for Intercontinental Championship (18:04)
The reason I chose this match first is because it's between two great wrestlers that are well-known, it's a very fast-paced match, lots of psychology and lots of high energy. Bret winning his first singles championship and against a super heel like Perfect would just put everyone in a good mood for the night.
Loser Goes To Jail: The Big Bossman Vs The Mountie (9:38)
A short match with a huge payoff to have some hilarious segments during Summerslam with the Mountie winding up in jail with the leather-loving homo. It was a decent match and something to kind of calm the fans down after the last match with a good payoff.
TLC 1 For Tag Team Championships: Dudley Boyz Vs. Edge/Christian Vs. Hardy Boyz (18:51)
A way to kick things up several notches with this huge match. Lots of spots, lots of action, lots of fans cheering. The original is still, to this day, one of the best TLC matches.
Boiler Room Brawl: Undertaker Vs. Mankind (26:40)
A real good way to let the crowd die down and the crew to clean up the mess in the ring while these two are backstage duking it out. Lots of history and both stars are again well-known in this situation so it's not a crowd killer like a Chris Masters match. Another good payoff with the Paul Bearer heel turn and it's now balanced with faces 2, heels 2. That's enough gimmick matches for a while though, otherwise this'll turn into a TNA PPV.
Power & Glory Vs. The Rockers (6:00)
A decent underdog story where Power & Glory actually picked up the win. Shawn got 'injured' early on in the match and was on the outside so it was Janetty all by himself. A double downer finish back to back but this was a good match for what it was supposed to be.
Love Her Or Leave Her: Test Vs. Shane McMahon (12:04)
Time to put some emotion back into the show! This match had tons of it! Everyone rooting for Test, the Mean Street Posse with the front row couch, breaking glass, Shane O'Mac sacrificing his body just like his dad does to put on a hell of a performance. And a feel good moment at the end with Test getting the win.
ECW Championship: John Morrison Vs. CM Punk (7:07)
Lots of people thought Punk was going to win, it was a great fast-paced match with lots of back and forth action. Morrison getting the upper hand on heels and it doesn't have very much time on it so the crowd doesn't die because they're trying to figure out what ECW is.
Triple H Vs. Eugene (14:06)
The storyline was amazing between these two and the match paid off very well and put over Eugene massively. I really wanted to fight and put HBK Vs. HHH in their unsanctioned street fight but that would've been way too many gimmick matches. This is a great way to keep the fans going emotionally after an un-emotional but very entertaining Punk/Morrison match.
WCW Championship: The Rock Vs. Booker T (15:19)
This had lots of good spots in the match, told a pretty good story and getting Shane involved isn't a bad idea either for this one. It was The Rock's first match back I believe after making a movie so everyone was pumped and it delivered.
World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton Vs. Chris Benoit (20:08)
I really wanted to include both Orton and Benoit and this was the best way to do it. The crowd would be pretty exhausted after all the emotion put into HHH/Eugene. This match started out slow and had a weak storyline behind it but picked up in the end and turned out to be an awesome technical match between the two.
WWE Championship: John Cena Vs. Chris Jericho (14:49)
This is the first time the crowd was 50/50 and it wasn't because everyone hated Cena, it's because Jericho was just too damn cool to boo. A very solid match, one of my favorite Cena matches of all time and it's one of Jericho's personal favorites too which says a lot considering it's Cena. Lots of false finishes, lots of good spots, crowd's 100% for it and a happy ending to a great PPV with Cena walking out with the belt.
Factoring in intro video, promos, highlights, commentary, looking at the arena a couple times from outdoors, video packages, and entrances. This show would be right around the mark for 3 hours.
Ones that almost made the cut:
Bret Vs. Bulldog - I just felt that Bret Vs Perfect would be the best opening match possible
HBK Vs. HHH - The only reason it isn't is because of the amount of gimmick matches already on the card
D'Lo Brown Vs Jeff Jarrett - The best opening match to a PPV I have ever seen in my life. Very fast-paced, lots of amazing counters, Debra's almost nude, an unsuspecting heel turn. It's perfect. But just not as much as Mr. Perfect as this match was also for the IC title.
Brock Vs Rock - I just felt that Cena/Jericho was the stronger performance of the two
It's hard but interesting at the same time. Anybody else?
