WWE No Mercy
October 22, 2000 Dudley Invitational Table Gauntlet
This is a basic tag team gauntlet match. To eliminate a team, you must put one member of the team through a table. Last team standing, wins. Hmm, I wonder who will win this.
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Lo Down vs Too Cool
Lo Down was D-Lo Brown and Chaz who were put together earlier in the year. Chaz is better known as Headbanger Mosh. Pretty standard short brawl. Brian Christopher is laid on one table with D-Lo climbing the ropes to hit a Low Down Frog Splash. Meanwhile, Chaz has Scotty on the top rope. Scotty blocks a move and suplexes Chaz through the table while Christopher moves out of the way with Brown going through the table. Only lasted about four minutes. Your typical pointless gauntlet round.
Too Cool vs Raven and Tazz
So Raven just returned last month and they're already clueless as to what to do with him. Christopher tries hitting a sunset flip from inside the ring to outside through a table to Raven, but Raven holds on to the ropes. Sexay's feet hits the table and breaks it. Ross and Lawler make sure to remind us that the BODY needs to go through. Yeah okay. This gets a nice "You fucked up" chant. This just shows how gimmicked the tables were. Scotty hits a Worm while going under a table. Tazz grabs Scotty and calls for Scotty (Raven's real first name) over to hit a double suplex to Scotty (Taylor, not Raven...yeah whatever like it matters). Too Cool are eliminated.
Raven and Tazz vs The Dudley Boyz
ECW~!ECW~!ECW~! This one gets the first major reaction out of the fans. Some ECW chants and the Dudleys are very over. One legdrop from D-Von to Raven through a table and it's already over in less than 3 minutes. Well that was memorable.
Dudley Boyz vs The Goodfather and Bull Buchanan
This is already the last round of the match. The ref gets knocked out and Bubba throws Bull through a table. But since the ref is out, the Dudleys haven't won yet. The Goodfather comes in and hits Bubba with a chair with him falling onto Bull who's still laying in the remains of the table. Goodfather pulls Bull out just as the ref is waking up. The ref sees Bubba on a broken table and rings the bell. Ha, a great ending that increases the feud between the teams. But wait...here comes another ref telling the first ref what happened. The ref restarts the match and the Dudley Boyz hits a 3D to The Goodfather through a table to win the match. Ugh. This is exactly what they did the month before. They had something smart going with RTC outsmarting The Dudley Boyz only for the Dudleys to end up getting the last laugh. Idk what the deal was. It seemed as if the WWE was just too afraid to let these two teams have an open feud for the next month.
Overall, this match was mainly pointless. The first 3 rounds were just filler until we got to the real reason why the match was created, RTC vs Dudley Boyz. I would of much preferred a 10 minute tables match with RTC vs Dudley Boyz. Keep the original finish with RTC winning and it would of been left with a good opener. These PPVs seemed to always put matches which could include as many people as possible. This happens to be the match tonight.
14 Minutes 1 1/2 Stars.
Backstage, Rikishi is waiting for Steve Austin. He even has a sledgehammer to welcome him.
Cut to T&A starring at Trish's chest. Trish wonders if they will pop out.
The APA and Lita vs T&A and Trish Stratus - 6 Person Intergender Match
Lita comes out, but the APA won't come out. Cut to the back and we see Bradshaw on the floor with some case on him. Farooq comes up but is jumped by T&A. They go after his knee and drops a *Heavy* case on his knee. Lita tries to leave, but T&A stops her at the entrance, Trish jumps her from behind. To the ring, the three of them beats Lita up until The Hardy Boyz comes out and rescues Lita. Okay, well that was pointless. What's the deal with throwing so much garbage on PPV when it would of made a perfectly fine segment/match on Raw or SD? We're paying our hard earn money to see shit like this?
6 Minutes. Not Rated.
Backstage, Edge and Christian talks about their flu that prevented them from being in the Dudley Boyz table match. They thought it was their nuts, but it turned out just to be a short viral thing. Pretty fun.
Chris Jericho vs X-Pac - Steel Cage Match
They're really whoring out the steel cage match in 2000. In a four month time span (July-Oct) THREE ppv's had steel cage matches. Then you had two HIAC's in 2000 as well. They really just show how unimportant feuds are at this time. Here you have Jericho vs Pac who in just 4 weeks had a normal PPV match, a first blood match (Raw) and now a steel cage match. It's pathetic. This is your standard cage match with the exception of Pac being back body dropped between the ropes and cage. That spot was showcased in the "Don't Try This At Home" videos for a few years. Jericho hits a superpowerbomb that grabs my attention. Later on, he's pushed from the top of the cage which allows Pac to certainly get the win. Pac showboats some while standing on the door and Jericho kicks the door which crotches Pac. With Pac still straddling the door, Jericho crawls out to win. If you've seen Nitro vs Hardy steel cage match, this has the same exact finish. A few good looking spots, but overall I was left feeling bored. A step down from their previous PPV month. Kinda a shame, I was really looking forward to this.

At WWF New York, Blackman impresses people by twirling sticks around.
Backstage, Rikishi demands to know where Austin is. Foley tells him that he's sure he will be here. But if he isn't, Foley will raise Rikishi's hand in victory himself.
Billy Gunn and Chyna vs Steven Richards and Val Venis
This was originally supposed to be Eddie Guerrero defending the IC title against Billy Gunn. However, the Raw before the PPV, Eddie was injured in a match against Y2J. So to make up for it, Foley booked this match. Yeah because everyone was dying to see this. Gunn had just returned from an injury (One of hundreds he had in his WWE time) and was about to be pushed hard once again. Gunn would eventually win the title from Eddie once he healed up. I can only assume the match would be a lot like the Rikishi match from Unforgiven where it's really a match between the interaction between Eddie and Chyna. Since Unforgiven, Chyna and Eddie finally split up with Chyna forming a friendship with Gunn. This match though has little purpose besides filling time and eventually being the start of the RTC/Chyna feud. Gunn is in the match most of the time with the RTC guys working over his shoulder. Eventually, the former DX takes over, but the other two members of RTC would come out and start brawling with Gunn. With the ref distracted, Eddie comes out (Well, limps out) and hits Chyna with some roses (Lead pipe in the middle). This allows RTC to get the victory. Another pointless match that deserved to be on Raw or SD. The fans are being screwed over so badly tonight.
7 Minutes. 1 Star.
Backstage, Stephanie asks Hunter to reconsider letting her come out for his match. He refuses. Stephanie gives Hunter a tape of Benoit's crossface saying there's something very interesting in it. Okay, since when did Stephanie become such the analyst? So now we're supposed to believe she has this great mind for wrestling?
Rikishi vs Steve Austin - No Holds Barred Match
Rikishi comes out without the skirt type deal he normally wears. Instead he wears a Samoan garb which looks like a dress. Some improvement. After some delay, Austin arrived driving his truck. The two brawls around the truck, the commentator's table, in the fans, back at the table and back at the truck. Austin nails Rikishi with a chair over and over. Rikishi is bleeding while Austin pushes him in his truck. They drive out of the arena (While Austin is drinking) and into the parking lot. Austin pulls 'Kish out and pushes him near a large stone thing. Austin gets back in the truck and speeds to the stone only for a cop car to cross the path and Austin accidentally hit it. Being the law abiding citizen he is, Austin pulls back and hits the cop car again. Suddenly, a bunch of cop cars come to the site and arrest Austin. Wow, they got there pretty quickly. It was as if they were told it was going to happen. The match never even really started. This just made Rikishi look like a first class loser. Once again, the fans doesn't get something they're promised. It was a fun brawl, but tonight hasn't had any serious matches yet.
12 Minutes. Not Rated. William Regal vs Naked Mideon - European Title
Regal recently returned to the WWE and quickly won the Euro title. Meanwhile, Mideon find a new gimmick in being naked...well not really naked. See, he used to wear a fanny pack to his the front of his g-string. Mideon is not naked to begin with. They wrestle for a few minutes which nearly puts me to sleep before Mideon starts stripping. Oh god. He heads under the ring to take his pants off and put on the fanny pack. The fans actually love this gimmick. Regal destroys Mideon and gets him in position for the Regal Stretch. Realizing that his body would be lying up against Mideon's bare ass, Regal can't put the hold on. This leads to The Regal Cutter to give Regal his first WWE PPV victory. So let me get this straight, The Undertaker, Kane, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, Blackman, Al Snow, and others all aren't booked in order for Mideon to wrestle? WTF? I hear Mideon was a great guy and loved by most of the guys in the back which is great. Every company needs a few Mideons who were well liked, didn't mind jobbing and doing anything the company asked. However, don't fucking book them on a PPV. Somehow, Mideon was able to have a strong support from the fans. That support and Regal's great facial expressions leads me to give this match a half star bonus. Still, such a waste of great talent in Regal.
7 Minutes. 1 Star.
On Heat, Angle shows a video of him interviewing The Rock. The interview consists of Angle asking questions with a bunch of past Rock interviews edited for the answers. It's nicely done and quite funny. Sadly, it's easily the best part of the show.
The Hardy Boyz (c) vs Los Conquistadors - World Tag Team Titles
Los Conquistadors are really Edge and Christian. Uno (The smaller one) is Christian while dos (Taller) is Edge. This match is pretty much just a comedy match with E&C doing a bunch of funny actions. As entertaining as it is, the actions suffers. Near the end, we see a few high flying moves. Matt unmasks Conquistador Dos, only to find Dos had another mask on. This lead to Uno to pin Matt. It was good for comedy, but but it was a letdown in terms of the history of matches E&C has produced with the Hardy Boyz. I haven't decided whether this match deserved to be on PPV or not. It was decent at least.
11 Minutes. 2 1/2 Stars.
Backstage, Hunter sees what Stephanie mentioned about the weakness in the Crossface.
Triple H vs Chris Benoit
This match came about after Benoit headbutted Stephanie McMahon and cost Trips a number 1 contender match against Angle. Kind of a weird backstory, but it's good enough. Hunter is in control early on wrestling more technical than usual. JR even says Hunter is the best technical wrestler in the WWE. But hey, Hunter did do a Mutalock, so that's fairly impressive. While Hunter works over the leg, Benoit works over Triple H's shoulder. Near the end of the match Stephanie runs out to distract Benoit. She slaps while the ref's back was turned. Benoit tries to lock in the Crossface, but Hunter uses the thing that Stephanie pointed out. What's that great weakness to stop the Crossface? Surely it has to be great right? Nah, it's just keeping one foot planted on the mat so Benoit doesn't bring you all the way down to the mat. Wow. Stephanie distracts the ref and Hunter lowblows Benoit and hits the Pedigree to win the match. The whole stupidity of the weakness of the Crossface aside, this was a great match. Their best singles match ever. Both guys were still major injury/surgery free and it allowed them to bust out any moves and work as fast as they wanted. I'll even say it's an underdog for MOTYC.
20 Minutes. 4 Stars.
Backstage, E&C celebrates with Los Conquistadors who are noticeably a different size then they were before. It looks like Uno lost a good 20 pounds and a few inches since his match. Rumor has it Christopher Daniels was Uno in this segment.
The Rock vs Kurt Angle w/ Stephanie McMahon - NO DQ WWE World Title
What a way to cap off your rookie year. Kurt's first match was at a big four ppv, he won the European Title, IC Title, KOTR, wrestled in the main event of Summerslam and now got a singles world title match on PPV. After Unforgiven, they decided to just keep the Angle/Stephanie storyline going on. Doesn't make sense, but whatever. Once Hunter started telling her not to come down to ring with him, Angle asked her. And here we are. The two eventually fights in the entrance where Angle is thrown throw two of the plastic setting (I think it's plastic). Back in the ring, Stephanie keeps distracting the Rock to help Angle out. Near the end, Rocky goes for a People's Elbow, but Stephanie comes in and stands in front of him stopping him. Rock says to hell with it and Rock Bottoms her. Angle stops a people's elbow. Out comes Triple H pissed off that Angle allowed Stephanie to be hurt. Angle is tossed out of the ring by Trips and Hunter and Rocky has a stand off. Rocky gets Pedigreed to the mat while Hunter carries Stephanie to the back. Angle only gets a 2 count. The two continues to fight while Rikishi comes out. Rikishi goes to hit his running back bump in the corner to Angle, but Kurt pulls Rocky in front of him. An angry Rikishi tries to hit a superkick to Angle, but Kurt ducks and he hits Rocky. Angle hits an Angle Slam on Rikishi. Rocky then gets an Angle slam and Kurt pins him to win his very first World Title. This was a very good match once all the run in's began, especially Rikishi's. Once Triple H and Stephanie left and Rikishi came out, Angle was acting more like babyface outsmarting the heels and overcoming the odds to win the match. It was terrible booking to give Angle the win. If nothing else, Angle should of hit the Angle slam after Rocky kicked out of the Pedigree and then win the match. It would of had the same effect that Angle had help, but that he did the final job. The big difference is that Angle would still look like a heel. Probably the worst finish in a main event of a ppv in 2000. This match was really shaping up to be better than their MOTYC at No Way Out until the messed up ending. It's still good, but it's not perfect. This whole reign's of Rocky's was terrible. He was always playing second fiddle to some other feud. Whether it was the love triangle of Steph-Hunter-Angle or the Austin car storyline. For the most part, The Rock was either forgot about or just a supporting character in one of the feuds. They could have did so much more with his reign.
22 Min 3 1/2 Stars. Overall
Who the hell booked this PPV? For the most part, we either got meaningless matches that belonged on Raw/SD or we didn't even get the matches we were promised. You get two very good matches but complete crap to precede it. The PPV is still worth getting on eBay or if you're lucky enough to find it in a video rental place just to see the final two matches. To date, neither (to the best of my knowledge) has been released on DVD. The rest, don't even worry about seeing.
Best Match: Triple H vs Chris Benoit
Worst Match: Billy Gunn and Chyna vs Steven Richards and Val Venis
Grade: D+
