For the longest time, I could not really understand the love for Stratus. So I get that she shows off a lot of her body, but people actually call her a great in ring wrestler and even more ridiculous, one of the greatest women wrestlers ever.
Looking back at her match history, I can remember really enjoying two matches. The Hardcore title match against Victoria at Survivor Series '02 and the Women's Title match against Mickie James at Wrestlemania 22. Often times, the Women's Title match was the worst or one of the worst matches on any given PPV.
What was it that made people feel as if she was such a great wrestler? Was it the low cut shirts? The Stratusphere? Even I will admit was kind of a cool looking move. If it's the fact that she was the best woman wrestler at the time, that really says how pathetic the women division was.
So for all of you Stratus fans, here's your chance to try and change my mind and convince me that Stratus deserves ANY of her praise.

I think she is overrated, but people overrate her because she improved so much. Was she amazing? No, but she came in as a random model who was JUST about showing her tits and ass all the time in sexual segments and angles, and she gradually became a credible Champion.
I can see the appeal in that, but she is definitely overrated as a wrestler.
Plus the hotness of her in general will make people overrate her I guess.

She was in the first hardcore match, in the womens division, she showed amazing talent when compared to the other Divas at the time, and she showed that her improvement was with leaps and bounds...
You have to realize, when judging on the greatest wrestler, you have to factor in what was done in that time period, what that person brought at that time that was different than others, and how often the brought their A-game to the table...

You have to realize, when judging on the greatest wrestler, you have to factor in what was done in that time period, what that person brought at that time that was different than others, and how often the brought their A-game to the table...
Trish wasn't even in the first Hardcore match. Ivory and Tori had various hardcore matches in 1999.
Your post really just makes me believe even more that people thinks she's the greatest because the WWE women scene was so pathetic. That's hardly a compliment saying someone is the greatest of a terrible time.

That point would only be valid if Womens Wrestling was up to the same standard as men's.

Just because the wwe's womens division sucks doesn't mean women can't produce great matches. Look at SHIMMER or AJW, hell Meltzer has given like 5 women's matches five star ratings.
Also, I would chip in Trish's retirement match with Lita as great, if for nothing more than the emotion and atmosphere. Not that three matches make you great or anything...

I've never seen anything from those promotions so I can't judge, but we are talking about mainstream wrestling, and seriously, do you see many great women's matches in WWE? Definitely not.
Trish is still better than most, although that probably ties in with Jim's point about her looking better than she was because no women in WWE are amazing.
