Eight years ago today, The World Wrestling Federation, a company that had been known as that for nearly 20 years became no more. In it's place gave way to the World Wrestling Entertainment. Now to be fair, since around 2000 or so, the WWF was really the WWFE (World Wrestling Federation Entertainment), but the extra E never made it to television.
To help bring on the change, the WWE put together a bunch of fun commercials with various WWF Attitude logos getting the horizontal lines removed. They even came out with a brand new t-shirt that read "Get The "F" Out!" As far as the logo goes, I do have to wonder why they didn't just draw a third horizontal line instead of removing two lines. Unless you turn the logo sideways, all it says is WW.
Name wise goes, they chose the simplest solution to their kangaroo and tigers problem. It was quite comical to watch Raw and count all the times Jim Ross accidentally said WWF, instead of the new WWE. It would of made quite the drinking game.
Although it was a very simple name change, to this day it still doesn't sound right to me. It would appear as if it doesn't sound right to the people in the WWE either. How many times have you heard someone be known as the World Wrestling Entertainment Heavyweight Champion? While WWF World Champion was more common, it wasn't unheard of to hear World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion. The word "Entertainment", just doesn't flow right in my opinion, which is why champions are known solely by the initials.
Thoughts on the initial change from WWF to WWE? Should the logo been made to read WW? Have you finally adjusted to the point were WWE sounds perfectly fine?

I for awhile hated the WWE for one reason you stated. The World Wrestling Entertainment just sounds... bad. They probably could've gained a better name but meh, I got used to it.
I loved the "Get the F Out" campaign.

I too loved the campaign, but I have always thought exactly what you said, that they could have added an extra horizontal line at the bottom so it actually spelled WWE. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I didn't like the entertainment aspect, or the name WWE, but I just got used to it and now it just sounds natural to me, although I would hate for someone to be announced as the 'World Wrestling Entertainment Champion'. The worst thing about the name change is the fact that the old dvds are no longer widely available in stores, and when new dvds (such as superstar dvds) are released, they have the WWF logos blurred out, even ones in the crowd. Seriously, do WWF care that much? What harm does it do them if the old WWF logo is shown on the turnbuckles of some dvd? They should be caring about saving animals rather than this pointless shit.
Another bad thing is that, with the WWF changing to WWE soon after the end of the Attitude Era, and the Brand Extension coming into play around the same time too, many felt it was the end of a great era for wrestling.

I remember one promo with The Rock telling everyone to "make like the new logo and get the F out" To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Generally most people I know still confuse the names, especially older people.

Even things like calling it 'The WWE', which I often do, shows that you knew it first as the Federation. 'The World Wrestling Entertainment' doesn't make sense, but I still say it lol.

That's one thing that older WWE has on the Attitude Era. Most pre-attitude shows doesn't blur out their logos or bleep out world wrestling federation, just WWF.

It is only the Attitude Era WWF logo which today's logo was derived from which is blurred out. The old logo isn't.
Interesting enough, tagged classics dvds don't blur or bleep out anything, even the Attitude Era ones.
