What is a tweener? Wikipedia describes it as someone who gets booed or boo'd despite their actions. However, I don't think a wrestling company sets out to make a wrestler do a horrible actions and get cheered. (or vice versa) Therefore wrestling wise, I don't think there is such a thing a tweener, you're either a heel or a face based on your actions in the ring and in storylines. The fans reaction to a wrestler may cause creative to create a heel or face turn depending on the response, but a tweener is a non existent wrestling alignment in my opinion.
Here's your chance give me your definition of a tweener.
I see a tweener as someone who is not definately a face or a heel. They are not obviously one or the other, they feud with both heels and faces, get cheered but also cheat etc. Jericho right now would be a best example of a tweener in WWE currently.
However, someone (maybe Ken) told me that a tweener means someone who changes between face and heel a lot during their career. I don't see it like that at all. I see a tweener as being someone who AT THAT TIME shows both face and heel characteristics, or isn't obviously one or the other.

A tweener is basically what Y2J is being booked doing. Teasing tension between Tista and HBK. Last week on Raw with HBK, he played a tweener. Spoiler alert:
This week on Smackdown! Batista lays Jericho out
Thats one form of a tweener. Another is Eddie G's lying cheating and stealing ways. Obvious heel actions, but the fans loved it.
Is Jericho creating tension between Batista and HBK really playing the part of a tweener? I believe its the start of his heel turn. If you consider that a tweener, than Brian Kendrick is a tweener because he walked out on London in their match with Umaga.
If you classify Eddie as a tweener then Cryme Tyme are tweeners as well. They promote a criminal offense and sometimes cheat to win, but still get cheered.
Cryme Tyme are too lighthearted though, and they are not portrayed as bad guys deep down. It is just a fun gimmick. Jericho has a huge ego and will feud with faces or heels because of it. He only cares about himself really. That is what makes him a tweener.

Did Jericho not come back and feud with Orton, then JBL? Thats two of the biggest heel on Raw. Then his heel turn started with Jeff Hardy and carried on from there. I still say Jericho is turning heel.
Eddie had light hearted cheating much like Cryme Tyme.

We will see about Jericho. Even if he is turning heel, becoming a tweener can be the first step in a heel turn. I personally think he will remain a tweener for now, and I am happy about it. Tweeners can be good, and it is more interesting than seeing stereotypical good guys and bad guys all the time. Jericho is the perfect guy to play a tweener.
Obviously he was a face when he first returned, hence the Orton and JBL feuds. You think WWE would have him looking heelish when they could capitalise on a huge return? They wanted to sell as much merchandise as possible.
Since then, his reactions started to dwindle and WWE made the decision to have him as a tweener, which is a good decision because he is so great at both face and heel, and brash arrogant Jericho is kind of tweenerish anyway.

So you're pretty much saying that a tweener is the transition from a face to a heel or vice versa? I guess that makes sense, but then when I make a thread about someone turning and whether its a good idea, some random person comes in and say keep them tweener. Therefore, they want to keep a wrestler in a transitional stage. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I am not saying it is just a transitional phase, but it can be. There is no reason why a guy can't remain a tweener over long periods of time, seeming like a face at times but then going back to feuding with faces and doing heelish things etc.
