Do they wear earplugs on the way to the ring? Guys like Kane, Goldberg, Booker T Batista, the Dudleys etc. stood/stand right in the middle of where those fireworks go off, they could experience hearing problems in later life with all that exposure to loud noises, are they protected from it atall?
The fireworks aren't what make the noise. I learned this from the pyro guy for WWE, in an issue of WWE Magazine. So, just by standing by them won't hurt their ears. The noise is made, I believe, by what are called concussions.
If I were a star with pyro, I'd be more afraid of being burned than being deafened. Some of their entrances, Jeff Hardy's in particular, looks kind of dangerous sometimes. It's probably a lot safer than it looks, but I can't help think back to what happened to James Hetfield during a Metallica show. He stood in the wrong place and got burned so bad he couldn't play guitar for a few months (years?).

I think it was close to 2 years he was unable to tour at least, as far as actually being able to play I'm not sure. No matter how many times I hear that story it always makes me remember what an absolute tool Axl Rose is.
But yeah, I'd be more scared of being set on fire that going deaf to be honest.
Goldust did an interview and he said that it burned like hell when he had to stand in the middle with the sparks shooting at him. It probably does hurt their ears in the long run though...but that's basically everything in wrestling.

Have you ever been to a live show when Kane comes out? Or when he does the 4 fires from the ringposts? That stuff is so friggin loud. I was sitting in the 3rd row with my buddy at a PPV and I thought my eyebrows were going to burn off. The amount of heat that comes off that pyro is crazy.
But yeah. I really wouldnt be suprised if the Kane and Batista types wore earplugs. That stuff is ALOT louder than it comes across on tv. The stuff sounds loud on tv too.

Being live at events seeing wrestlers like Kane (2005) and Booker T (1999), I can't see how it wouldn't be extremely loud for them. I assume that some either wear earplugs or they just 'Tough it out'. After years of dealing with it, one would probably grown to be accustomed to it making it easier to stand.
As for the fire, I know that Goldberg has said in the past that his entrance would always singe him some.
