The submission probally the most gratifying form of victory, and the most humiliating form of defeat.
From Y2J Walls of Jericho to Superstar Billy Graham Bear Hug.There's a history of different Submission holds. Many in which are apply at the closing end of a match to gain the victory over their worn out opponent.
Some of the same submission holds used to gain a win,are used by many different wrestlers. Some who have pattern their wrestling holds from their wrestling hero, and some just honoring their freind or family member.
So lets name some of the most reconized;or not, submission holds in wrestling and those who apply them.
The Vice grip used by The Great Khali, which is a claw with 2 hands. The walls of Jericho ,not to be confused with the boston crab.Though many times he has applied this move in place of the Walls of Jericho ,because of the difficulty of some of the size & length of his opponents.
Their are many others wrestling submission holds, some similiar to others. The(cosquina) clutch by Samoa Joe called Rear naked choke. Tazmission (half naked choke)And Bob Backlund Chicken Wing.
With some submission holds, more dangerous than others. And others just more apealing to eye;pick a submission hold that you feel is the best, for any given reason you might have.
You may name any others submission holds, you like that aren't in list.
I don't know if it really counts as a submission but Bryan Danielson's MMA elbows are fucking bad ass. Other notable submission are Bret Hart's Sharpshooter and Mike Quackenbush's CHIKARA Special.
My Ultimate Favorite is the Sharpshooter. but some of my other favorites are:
The Iron Shiek's Camel Clutch
Mankind's Mandible Claw
Tonga 'Uli'Uli Fifita's Tonga Death Grip (not mentioned)
Lex Luger's Torture Rack
and Ric Flair's Figure Four Leg Lock
my all time fave is the crippler crossface (I don't see it on the list) but I also dig MMA style submissions such as the TRiangle choke, Anachonda Vice, ankle lock and Tazmission.
However, I grew up watching the sharpshooter/scorpian so that gets the nod
-The Anklelock. I used to love when Shamrock would lock it in during his WWF days. He would almost go crazy while he was applying the hold, looking like he really wanted to snap the ankle of his opponent. Plus, I enjoy that the move could sometimes just happen so quickly, the surprise factor of it made it great.
- Sharpshooter. Duh. Loved watching Bret Hart apply that hold. Plus, without it, Survivor Series '97 would just be another pay-per-view.
- Boston Crab. Just loved that move. When Rick Martel used to apply it, I booed like hell because I knew he was going to win the match. I hated that guy, in a "you're such a heel" sort of way.
- Camel Clutch. Watching Slaughter and Sheik put that move on was devastating to watch at the time. The move looked so damn painful.
- Tazmission. LOL. My buddies and I used to "sneak up" on eachother during high school and apply it to eachother in the middle of class, or just before it. I remember always getting to 5th period Physics class as early as possible, so I could be waiting around the corner to apply the Tazmission to my buddy.
Although it isn't on the list, I would have to say the CHIKARA special. Quack and some other CHIKARA guys can pull it off incredibly to the point where you believe it would actually hurt you.
Of that list, I pick the Tazmission. Taz just came off as a bad ass in the original ECW and looking back on tapes he really seemed legit.
