I've been thinking about this lately with recently watching the home video called "Bret Hart - Wrestling with Shadows"
I don't like how people call Bret Hart a crybaby because he still whines bout the screwjob to this day. Well one thing you must understand is that Bret Hart only whines bout it to this day because it's about principle. It's not about the WWF Championship, it's the principle of the matter more so than the matter itself. Vince and Bret backstage, on the same day of Survivor Series 1997, agreed that the match would end in DQ with Bret surrendering the title the next night on Raw and leaving for WCW. Sure, you could say that Vince was afraid that Hart would go to WCW with the WWF Championship and throw it in the trash but they had agreed that Bret would surrender the title the very next night on Raw in Canada and then leave for WCW without the belt. But instead instead of taking Bret's word for it, they did the screwjob. I totally agree with Bret Hart about everything he says about Vince and the screwjob. Vince went back on his word, Earl Hebner went back on his word when he swore on his children's lives that he would never screw Bret. Even Jim Neidhart and Vader warned Bret that there could be a screwjob and to kick out at two every single time, don't get locked into submissions or anything. I don't know why I made this thread but I just wanted to basically say that anyone who says that Bret is a crybaby is wrong. Remember, it's about principle. Vince and Bret made a deal, Vince agreed and then went back on his word. I'm all with Bret about this.
- Bret really talked about the whole situation way too much. He went on to WCW and earned one of the biggest contracts in wrestling history. Get over it. But I think he finally did at the Hall of Fame.
- Vince was totally out of line. I understand the thinking behind "doing things the right way" in which Bret should have dropped the title before he left, but he should not have been asked to drop the belt in Canada and Vince once he gave Bret his word on the outcome shouldn't have went back on it and screwed him.
- I also blame Shawn Michaels. If HBK wasn't a cocksucker all those years and lost his smile when he should have dropped the belt to Bret at WM13, keeping in mind that Bret put him over huge the year prior, then maybe Bret wouldn't have had such an issue dropping the belt to him at Survivor Series that year.
Which you are right, Bret finally got over it at the Hall of Fame but then again he did say that if he saw Shawn Michaels he was going to walk out, get in a cab and go straight to the airport. Yeah, Vince was out of line. He had Bret's word that Bret indeed WAS going to surrender the title the very next night on Raw and announce that he was leaving. Which would have been the right way to have done it.
Little fact about the Screwjob, the idea was actually Triple H's
Which is another reason why I hate Triple H as much as I do.

Re: Montreal Screwjob
I really don't get your argument in defense of Bret Hart. I think this sums it up:
Quote:

mmkay, so once this is understood...what difference does it make? Anyone who doesn't like Bret Hart whining would still not like him whining after taking this into consideration. You're really just explaining why he's whining, not why people shouldn't criticize him for it.

I explain why he whined about it because I think that sometimes people forget about principle and just to discuss the event in general. I never really said that people shouldn't criticize him for it, I just said I don't like it when people do that basically. Oh well, who cares. Also please don't reply to this because I often get tired of you.

Well, considering how much is out there for public knowledge, I'm gonna say this "little known fact" is bullshit. You're reading way to much into Triple H's comment when he suggested to Vince "if Bret doesn't want to drop the belt, then make him" or whatever. Vince took the suggestion and came up with the idea. Vince was determined to not let Bret leave Montreal with HIS title belt, so a fucking intern could have walked by with a pot of coffee and said what HHH said and Vince would have gone with it. C'mon.....
Fuck Bret Hart. He's a whiny little bitch. He didn't want to lose in Canada? Boo-fucking-hoo. His ego had to be groomed and to hell with the WWE, Vince McMahon, and a 100 years of wrestling tradition and protocol. Jesus Christ....even HOGAN did. The King of Kings when it comes to ego.
And, no offense, but you must have a lot of time on your hands to open this can of worms from 12 years ago.

Bret Hart was going to go out on Raw the very next night and forfeit the title in Canada. He didn't want to lose at Survivor Series because he felt he was a hero in Canada which he was and it being his last match, he wanted to go out with his head held high and drop the belt on his own terms which he was going to do the very next night.
LOL !! "I must have alot of time on my hands...."
Oh yeah, it takes soooo long to make a thread. Please *rolls eyes*

Yeah..."making the thread" is what I was referring to. Way to catch that one.
We all know what Bret said, after all it happened 12 years ago.....but did Hogan say "C'mon, Vince. I'm an American Hero. Let me lose at a house show in Germany before I go to WCW" Did HBK refuse to drop the title to Austin at Wrestlemania, in what was believed to be his last match, to stroke his ego?
He wasn't leaving the WWE for some Indy promotion in Bulgaria!! He was going to WCW for fucks sake. What, was he never going to wrestle in Canada again in his life? Bret was just too big a star to follow the norm of dropping a title and losing at a PPV before leaving for another promotion, like 99.9% of every other wrestler ever, has done?
