me and one of my friends were having a debate over this so i've decided to ask u guys....if a wrestler puts on a great hardcore match/street fight, does that mean that he can wrestle?
Hardcore wrestling is a style, just like lucha libre and mat based. I doubt Flair or Bret Hart would ever make a good lucha libre but are good at what they do. Hardcore wrestling also requires ring/wrestling psychology. as rvd says, weapons should be props to aid a match, not replace a match.
However, it does depend on what you call a great hardcore match. there are some matches where they serve no purpose (prime e.g. al snow and bossman's kennel from hell match)
Aside from the Streetfight and the Last Man Standing match those aren't really garbage matches though. Most of the "hardcore" matches I've seen don't involve good wrestling. Just a bunch of spots and weapons to go with a joke title. Hardcore wrestling was and still is one of the biggest jokes in Professional Wrestling. Basically if you CAN'T put on a good hardcore match you should probably get out of the ring. It only takes two half wit morons to make an acceptable hardcore match.
I'd like to point out that this mostly the Americanized version of hardcore wrestling in which I'm referring to. I find some of the Japanese wrestlers incorporate weapons into the match well. See Jushin Liger vs. The Great Muta.
