Early Life
Ken began training to become a wrestler age 13 and made his debut at the age of fifteen, in 2001. He started his professional wrestling career in the New England area under the name Ken Phoenix. Ken was trained by legendary professional wrestler and professional wrestling trainer, Killer Kowalski. After being contracted by WWE, he appeared in their developmental territory promotion Ohio Valley Wrestling.
World Wrestling Entertainment
2003-2005
Doane made his initial appearance in WWE at the age of 17 on the May 12, 2003 episode of WWE's Monday Night RAW, aired from Philadelphia, as Kenn Phoenix. Along with his brother, using the name Mike Phoenix, he was a participant in Rodney Mack's ongoing '5-Minute White Boy Challenge' where Mack would defeat random caucasian wrestlers in under 5 minutes. Mack defeated the pair in 1:31, forcing them both to submit to his debuting Black Out finisher. Doane would go on to wrestle and be defeated by Goldust on an episode of Heat. Doane was later signed by the WWE and reported to the developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).
Spirit Squad (2006)
Doane returned two years later to WWE television as a 'male cheerleader' at a WWE house show as part of a new stable, the Spirit Squad. The group went on to make their RAW debut on January 23, 2006 during Coach and Jerry Lawler's Royal Rumble qualifying match. He would compete under the new name of Kenny.
Since then, The Spirit Squad have appearanced on RAW, Unlimited, WWE Friday Night SmackDown!, and every WWE pay-per-view since their debut. The Spirit Squad has became a part of an on-going feud between WWE chairman Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels. The heel McMahon hired the Spirit Squad to perform disrespectful cheers and attack Michaels. Ken Doane was involved in a 4-on-1 handicap match on the February 20, 2006 RAW, against Shawn Michaels. Ken Doane and his teammates in the Spirit Squad were disqualified, but they continued the beatdown after the match, prompting Michaels' former partner Marty Jannetty to get involved. The Spirit Squad even won a 4 on 1 tornado handicap steel cage match against Michaels, and interfered during the Michaels/McMahon match at WrestleMania 22.
At the March 6, 2006 edition of RAW, Kenny competed in his first singles match (as part of the Spirit Squad) where he defeated Eugene. On a later edition of RAW, Kenny would be involved in a six-man tag match along with Spirit Squad partners Johnny and Mikey, where he would once again face off against Eugene, along with tag parners Val Venis and Viscera. The Spirit Squad would win this match, injuring Venis' right arm in the process and putting him out of action for several weeks.

The Spirit Squad, after winning the World Tag Team Championship on April 3, 2006.
At Backlash, Kenny and the rest of the Spirit Squad interfered in the Shawn Michaels/Vince McMahon match. Although HBK dove to the floor onto them from the top of a ladder (situated in the ring) the Spirit Squad rallied to attack Michaels, eventually giving him High Spirits through a table, and allowing Vince McMahon to score the pinfall.
The next night the five members of the Spirit Squad were named Co-General Managers of RAW while Vince McMahon took a "day of rest". After drawing "spirit straws" it was decided that Kenny would challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship.

Kenny, making his way to the ring
Triple H was named special guest referee in the title match, but walked out (after attacking both John Cena and the various members of the Spirit Squad at ringside). Shawn Michaels took his place and hit his finisher, Sweet Chin Music, on Kenny which allowed John Cena to pin him and retain his title. On May 22, 2006, RAW was in Las Vegas and Vince McMahon signed a 5 v. 1 Handicap Match pitting the Spirit Squad against Shawn Michaels. However, the match never started and The Spirit Squad brutally beat down Michaels. They ripped apart his ring attire and shattered his knee with a steel chair (as he was going for his Sweet Chin Music). Vince called Triple H to the ring to finish Michaels off with a sledgehammer shot. However, Kenny suddenly snatched the sledgehammer away and disrespected Triple H, which led to Triple H attacking the group
Kenny and the rest of the Spirit Squad would continue to feud with both Triple H and Shawn Michaels, who would team together to revive the DX faction. DX would play various pranks on Spirit Squad and the McMahons, as well as defeating Spirit Squad in various handicap tag matches during WWE Vengeance and Saturday Night's Main Event. Shortly thereafter, Kenny and the Squad had feuds with The Highlanders, Ric Flair, and Cryme Tyme.
Court Case
In July 2006, a man named James Wilson alleged he approached Doane and fiancee Mickie James while they were in a car, stopped at a red light at a traffic intersection. Wilson stated approached them for an autograph after a WWE event in Norfolk, VA. According to Wilson's statement made to Virginia television station WKTR, Doane allegedly grabbed the man's poster and sped off causing Wilson to fall and injure his shoulder, and his sign to tear. Wilson reported the incident to WKTR before reporting the incident to the authorities, stating he (Wilson) knows the difference between real and fake and believes “Kenny did more than just play his character". Wilson stated the sign being torn is a misdemeanor and wanted to take further action, stating “I’m innocent and I’m going to take a warrant out. And nobody’s going to stop me over my dead body!†Wilson would file charges of assault, battery, and vandalism. According to WWE’s Gary Davis, Vice President for Corporate Communications, the WWE backed Doane and offered Wilson autographed photos but Wilson refused and asked for money, which led to WWE asking for a written report. Doane was issued warrants for assault, battery, and vandalism charges August 14th, 2006 at the RAW taping in Charlottesville, Virginia and had a court date on August 31, 2006 in Roanoke, Virginia where the fan did not appear in court.
The End of the Squad?
On the October 16th, 2006 taping of RAW, Kenny and the Spirit Squad were up against Cryme Tyme in a non-title match. This match was Cryme Tyme's debut. The Spirit Squad lost the match, and shoved each other around. It then escalated to a fight between Kenny and the other members, he left calling them losers. This is believed to be either the end of The Spirit Squad, the beginning of Kenny's solo career, or both. On the October 23rd, 2006 taping of RAW, Kenny and the Spirit Squad were up against Cryme Tyme in a non-title match. The Spirit Squad lost the match. Kenny legged dropped Mikey from the top rope. He told the Spirit Squad he had it with them from losing to people like Ric Flair. He said he would face Ric Flair on his own. Later that night, he beat Ric Flair but had 3 members of the Spirit Squad at ringside. After the match he left the ring allowing Dusty Rhodes, Sgt. Slaughter, and Roddy Piper to beat up on his team mates.
