Celebrating Halloween Havoc

WCW's annual Halloween PPV would have turned twenty this year (October 28th). Despite other PPV's having better matches, Halloween Havoc was my favorite WCW PPV for the gimmicky of it. A fun fact: Despite Halloween falling on a Sunday twice in Halloween Havoc history, the PPV never took place on Halloween. It was placed on the 24th instead.

Looking back through the history of the PPV, some of my favorite moments/matches:

1989 - The Great Muta blowing fire out with his mist. The ultimate example of what being a badass is all about.

1990 - Two Sting's~! Despite being cheesy and not a very good sham, it was still a fun angle having Barry Windham dress up as Sting in order to help Sid win the title.

1991 - The Halloween Phantom debuts. 1991 went from great to horrible for WCW very quickly. Yet, the debut of Rick Rude (And later Ricky Steamboat) was a sign of things would be improving.

1994 - Brutus Beefcake is revealed to be Hogan's attacker~! Lame, yes. But still awesome to watch.

1995 - Sumo wrestling with monster trucks? Who wouldn't love that?

1997 - One of the greatest WCW matches ever taking place between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio Jr.

1998 - DDP gets a good match out of Goldberg and Hogan/Warrior proves that lightning doesn't strike twice.

Thoughts/memories/favorite matches of Halloween Havoc

Outside Eddie/Rey and Goldberg/DDP, my favourite HH matches are Steiners vs Nastys from '90, Cactus/Vader from '93 and Pillman vs Luger from '89. Watching a lot of older WCW, the Nasty Boys are a very underappreciated team. So many highly praised Steiner matches just come off as exhibitions of big moves to me, this is more of Southern tag with the Nastys really bringing the structure and heat. They do a great job in control and make Scott's hot tag at the end really big and are awesome with all their cheating and heeling.

The rules in Foley vs Vader are pretty retarded and TNA-ish, but the action is top notch. Just a really stiff, violent brawl with both men beating the ever-loving hell out of each other. Wrestling needs a new Vader.

No its not that one, Vader throws some hard punches to Foley in that match though lol

I've not watched that DVD in a while but I think it is another Vader/Foley match.

I remember the atrocity that was the Chamber Of Horrors match from 1991, just a bizzare concept with a truly dredfull match.

The Vader/Jack match on Foley's DVD is the one from WCW Saturday Night in April. Their Havoc match was that year though.

Also I remember Steve Williams and Steve Austin having a great time limit draw with Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham in 1992.
