I put it in this section because it largely deals with the past and also may develop into a broader discussion about authority figures in wrestling.
Basically, Vince is considered a great on screen character who has contributed to many good things on WWE TV over the years. He is often considered one of the best heels ever and one of the best on screen authority figures, but to what extent do you believe he has helped the product, and individual wrestlers over the years?
Everybody knows how much Vince as an on screen character helped Steve Austin become as huge as he did, but there are also a lot of people who complain about McMahon's constant presence on WWE TV at certain points over the last decade, accusing him of taking the spotlight away from the actual wrestlers and also taking heat off of the wrestlers and onto himself. As well as being involved in many high profile angles over the years, he has also been involved in a lot of high profile matches at big PPVs, which could be seen as a classic example of Vince taking up valuable PPV time which could be given to real wrestlers who could benefit from the exposure. Wrestlemania usually involves some sort of McMahon subplot, with Vince wrestling in big matches at 17, 19 and 22 and having a big part in much hyped matches in others (a McMahon in every corner, Battle of the Billionaires, Rock screwjob) and has faced some of the biggest names in the business on PPV, such as Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, Triple H, Shawn Michaels etc.
To what extent do you think Vince has been more of a hinderance than a help to the product and its future over the years? Would certain wrestlers have benefitted more had the boss not taken up so much air time?
