Who has had the most impressive year in the WWE in terms of workrate and matches?
Which wrestlers would you say have had the best year for wrestling in the WWE, strictly based on match quality and workrate?
My two picks would go to Triple H in 2000 and Austin in 2001.
Triple H's great matches included matches against The Rock, Foley, Benoit, Jericho, Angle, also participating in a variety of stipulations such as the iron man match with Rock, Cell and Street fight with Foley, pure wrestling match with Benoit, Last Man Standing with Jericho.
Steve Austin had great matches with Angle, Benoit, Rock, Triple H (only No Way Out 2001), RVD. His best matches included Wrestlemania 17, 3 Stages of Hell with Triple H, Summerslam with Angle, Smackdown match with Benoit and the great tag match including Austin/Triple H vs. Jericho/Benoit
Re: Who has had the most impressive year in the WWE in terms of workrate and matches?
I swear 2000 HHH gets overated alot. In most of those matches his opponent was the better worker. I mean yeah he was good for sure but people act like he had an incredible run when I'm sure I could reel off atleast 20 better... The Angle match was also 2001.
As far as WWE/F goes, Austin's 2001 run is pretty damn hard to top by ANY standard.

Re: Who has had the most impressive year in the WWE in terms of workrate and matches?
First, can you explain workrate? I'm guessing you just mean their personal performances in the matches as well as the quality of the matches themselves?
The two you listed both spring to mind instantly. Austin's 2001 was just insanely great. The fact that I would rank 3 Austin matches from 2001 in the top 10 WWE matches this decade says a lot about how great his year was, those being the 3 stages of hell match with Triple H, the Wrestlemania match with Rock and the Summerslam match with Angle. Other matches such as the Benoit match, the tag with Triple H against Benoit and Jericho, and the return Angle match also come reasonably close. Amazing year.
I think with the deterioration he has suffered since and with many not being a fan of the guy due to backstage stuff, people often forget how good HHH was in 2000. That said, he did have a lot of things in his favour. He was working with incredibly gifted wrestlers in Rock, Benoit, Jericho, Foley, Angle etc, and he was wrestling them in the best possible environments to produce a great match. That said he still had a great year and is a top contender for this.
I'd go with Austin in 2001 for this. I'm struggling to think of others besides the two you mentioned right now...

You got it, workrate in terms of personal performances

But would you say Austin also wrestled the same people Triple H did in 2000? I mean Angle, Benoit, Rock are all great workers. What would you say Austin did that stands out more than Triple H?
Re: Who has had the most impressive year in the WWE in terms of workrate and matches?
Because Austin was the better worker in all his matches unlike HHH? Austin vs Rock, vs Angle, vs Benoit, etc were also significantly better than any of those guys vs HHH.

Not having seen Michaels's matches with Vader and Sid (I liked the Foley match quite a lot), the Ironman match with Bret and matches with Davey Boy were really overated and average.
