After a couple years of dominance, WCW found themselves back in a ratings war with the WWE. While the nWo was once very successful, it seemed as if people were growing tired of it. The idea to get people back on WCW's side completely was to split the nWo up into two different factions. nWo Hollywood would remain the nWo that we had all knew with key members being Hollywood Hogan, Scott Hall, Curt Hennig, Scott Steiner, The Giant and Bret Hart. Meanwhile, Kevin Nash would lead the Wolfpac along with Randy Savage, Konnan and newcomers to the nWo fold, Lex Luger and Sting. For the rest of the Summer and Fall, the two factions would fight until reuniting (Minus a few members) on the night of the Fingerpoke of Doom.
Looking back, I still have a lot of questions for the logic of the group. The main one being why did Lex Luger and Sting join after fighting the nWo for so long? On one hand, I can understand realizing that WCW wasn't able to defeat the nWo, so they join up with a group that they felt could (Quite ironic seeing how things turned out). But perhaps it's my love of history that tells me that this doesn't make sense. Look at World War II as an example what a two front war (nWo vs Wolfpac and nWo vs WCW) could do to a strong power. Germany couldn't survive attacks from the right by Russia and the Allie Powers on the left. Yet, I can still remember how the commentators put over how Sting had to choose between the nWo and the Wolfpac that Summer. Why?
One of the criticisms I've seen about the Wolfpac is that it was over-saturating the nWo name. I don't believe that though. At the time, I didn't really see the Wolfpac as a part of the nWo. More than anything, they felt like a WCW faction, like the Four Horsemen than another "Organization". Besides Goldberg, I can't think of anything that was more over in WCW that Summer than the Wolfpac. If there was anything that was weakening the nWo name, it wasn't the Wolfpac or the lWo, but the nWo itself lasting as long as they did.
Feelings on the Wolfpac? Memories?

I was thinking the other day about how hardly anybody brings up the Wolfpac, probably because they're a footnote and not worth remembering.
My WCW history is fuzzy at best, but other than Nash I can't remember what other members did. For me they were around at the stage when I was bored of the n.W.o. and anything related to them. I also wasn't a fan of anybody other than Saavge in that group.
I think the only time I ever bring them up is in conversations about Sting when people told me he was the face of the company throughout his entire run, and I ask if he's so good then why wasn't he the focal point of the Wolfpac after being the main face of the company in 1997. Or something along those lines.
They're probably the second best incarnation of the n.W.o. by default only.

Just by memory alone:
Sting - Went into the Wolfpac as one half of the tag team champions. Once he and the Giant realized they couldn't team, he defeated the Giant for sole custody of the titles. He chose Kevin Nash as his partner. After that, not much. He wrestled Bret Hart at Halloween Havoc. I seem to recall he was injured for a few months before the reunion of the two nWo's.
Lex Luger - Spent most of the Summer battling Bret Hart over the WCW US title. He racked up a couple of reigns there. That's about it.
Randy Savage - I'm pretty sure he got hurt very early on. Title wise, he was the least successful member.
Konnan - He got pretty over with his shtick. He mostly just fought against lowcarders such as Stevie Ray and Chris Jericho over the TV title.
---
Nothing too impressive since Goldberg's title reign was going on, Warrior would debut and leave and Nash was pushing his way to the top.

My only thoughts on the Wolfpac is how god fucking annoying their music was. You'd hear it like every ten seconds on an episode of Nitro. AAAAAAAAAARGH. It's bringing up some painful memories, man, some very painful memories.
I didn't like it. I was a big fan of Sting at the time and I didn't like the transition to the black & red with him speaking more prominently. I liked the idea of a stable branching off from the nWo, I just didn't agree with some of the members (including the illogical choices as Jim mentioned).

I loved the music. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I'm surprised there's so much hate for the group. At the time, I was enjoying them more than anything else that Summer. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
