What were your thoughts on The Rock's wrestling ability?
What were your thoughts on the Rock's in ring skills and workrate? Ive heard people say he was an average in ring performer, but I dont think he was average, he had really good matches with Austin, Benoit, Triple H, Jericho, Lesnar without ever having been carried
Re: What were your thoughts on The Rock's wrestling ability?
He was great to be honest. Look at all the great matches he had between 2000 and 2002. Yes he was wrestling talented guys, but it takes two to have a great match, and I can't think of many other wrestlers who have packed so many very good-great matches in such a short period.

I agree man, I think both him and Cena get unfairly criticised for their in ring work. I dont think ive ever seen a Rock match where I felt he was carried
Re: What were your thoughts on The Rock's wrestling ability?
I would say he was above avg but not much more then that. Don't get me wrong i am a big fan of his, but when it comes down to his matches he never did anything out of the ordinary. He did make the moves he used lokk outstanding though, overall i would say he was like a 7.5/10 for in ring ablity mabey an 8.
Re: What were your thoughts on The Rock's wrestling ability?
I'm not sure if Rock was better than Cena. I'm going to say he was, but Cena doesn't often get the chance to work with such talented guys as Benoit, Austin, even HHH (who was pretty damn awesome in 2000-2001, not so much 2006-now when Cena has been facing him). Again, Rock definitely wasn't carried, but at the same time it's easier to have great matches against such great opponents, even if Rock himself put a lot into those matches. I'd still give Rock the edge over Cena though, and yes both are underrated because people see them as "entertainers" and discount their actual wrestling ability for some reason. One of the reasons they are entertaining is that they put on good matches.
Rock had great offence, he was very good at selling, and like Cena, he just knew how to get you into his matches and make them entertaining. His timing was great and his comebacks were always enjoyable. He had minor flaws such as overacting at times, but in general he was pretty great.

Definately agree, I have both of them at an equal level when it comes to wrestling ability. But I will say Cena had really good matches with Umaga, Lashley, Batista, and he had a pretty decent match with Khali from what I remember

Yeah Cena has given a fair few wrestlers their best match in WWE, and I think that says a lot. He may only have maximum 10 GREAT matches, but getting such good matches out of guys like Lashley and even Khali is just as good an indication of his ability. The match with Batista was also good but Batista has had much better (Taker matches, even the HHH Hell in a Cell). To be honest I was actually a little disappointed with that match.

I quite enjoyed the Batista/Cena match, I think that would make a epic Wrestlemania main event, in terms of its the modern day "Warrior vs. Hogan". His matches with Michaels was good too

Cena vs Batista should continue at some stage. I was surprised they didn't save the first encounter for a Mania actually. I thought the match was good (at the time I said great, but on rewatching I wasn't so impressed) but it could have been better. If they wrestled again and got 20 minutes I think they could produce a great match.

Re: What were your thoughts on The Rock's wrestling ability?
I don't think Cena would have been able to have the same sort of match Rock had with Jericho in 2001 or with Austin in 2003. I don't think he ever did as much goofy stuff and his comebacks were usually a lot better, though Cena has sort of suffered from not being able to blade and do a bunch of violent stuff despite being booked in blood fueds.
But yeah I have nothing but praise for Rock. The guy more or less mastered how to work a big match and knew how to make his matches spectacular and memorable. The dude sold his ass off but I don't think his overselling was as annoying as Michaels's, and he took some insane bumps in order to put his opponents over. I don't think an average wrestler would have been able to have a great hour long match with HHH even if 2000 HHH was pretty good. Like Eddie a big thing Rock has going for him is his versatility. Rock vs Austin, Rock vs Lesnar, Rock vs HHH, Rock vs Benoit, Rock vs Jericho, etc etc barely any of his matches are the same thing repeated. As far as carryjobs go he probably carried more guys than he was ever carried. He carried a phyisically crippled (if still charismatic) Hogan to a huge match that delivered and helped pick up the slack for Austin in 2003 after Austin had an accident or something. He was a very smart wrestler and maybe the most charismatic ever.
