Who in mainstream wrestling has the most great matches behind them?

I remember someone saying that Rey may have more good matches than anybody else, but good matches are hard to count because there are so many. GREAT matches are more memorable, naturally, so it's easier to list them.

I said mainstream wrestling because the obvious answer is Danielson otherwise, and it is interesting to think who has produced the most great matches in WWE/TNA.

Re: Who in mainstream wrestling has the most great matches behind them?

Most recently I have to go with Shawn Michaels. Shawn has put on some great matches, especially at WrestleMania:

HBK vs. Angle (WM 21)
HBK vs. Flair (WM 24)
HBK vs. Cena ((WM 23) I even thought that one was good)
HBK vs. Taker (WM 25)
HBK vs. Cena (Raw 4/23/07)
HBK vs. Benoit vs. HHH (WM 20)

Yeah I'm not going to think too hard about this but really Rey Mysterio is the one that comes to mind. His matches don't get talked up as much as others' but they are there and there are a lot.

Definately not Michaels.

To me, Michaels has a lot more GREAT matches than Rey. When I think of truly great Rey matches, I honestly struggle to think of many at all. He's had a lot of good matches, some very good, but great?

In WWE, I can only think of a handfull. Might be forgetting plenty, but right now I can only think of a few 2002 tags, and a couple of Jericho matches this year. Probably only the Bash one that's truly great.

So... where are all these great Rey matches?

Re: Who in mainstream wrestling has the most great matches behind them?

I always find Michaels performing well at Wrestlemania, but the other times hes just ok, he had a good run last year with Jericho but usually his best work is at Wrestlemania (even though im not that fond of his matches at Mania). But guys like Mysterio and Benoit when he was around were performing brilliantly most of the time whether it was PPVs, or on TV

Re: Who in mainstream wrestling has the most great matches behind them?

I should say at this stage that the guy with the most great matches isn't necessarily the best wrestler. Being a great wrestler is about many factors. Consistantly GOOD matches, making opponents look good etc, not necessarily just producing MOTYCs. I'm not asking who is the best, I'm asking who has the most great matches, which means they have to be considerably better than just good.

Wait a minute, are we counting just Rey's WWE run or his whole career? Because his whole career covers a lot of ground.

Re: Who in mainstream wrestling has the most great matches behind them?

Whole career, but I'm not familiar with anything pre-WWE outside the highly rated Halloween Havoc match. For now maybe just name WWE ones because I can't think of many great Rey matches in WWE.

Were all great matches, theres also a lot of stuff thats borderline like the matches with Orton and Finlay. Bold ones I've not seen/have no recollection of. Really liked the JBL one but I'm not sure about great. The Angle one needs a rewatch but I'm pretty sure it was as good as it could have been and one of the best openers ever. Tag match, Chamber and especially Mask vs Title were greatness. The chamber is especially notable because it was pretty much Rey alone who made it great.

I still think a couple of others have more great matches than that. Michaels to be honest would be one of them.

This is without even seeing most of his older matches:

vs Mankind - Mind Games 96
vs Undertaker - Bad Blodd 97
vs Austin - Wrestlemania 14
vs Triple H - Summerslam 2002
vs Triple H vs RVD vs Booker T vs Kane vs Chris Jericho - Survivor Series 2002
vs Chris Jericho - Wrestlemania 19
vs Chris Benoit vs Triple H - Wrestlemania XX
vs Chris Benoit vs Triple H - Backlash 2004
vs Kurt Angle - Wrestlemania 21
vs Shelton Benjamin - RAW
vs Kurt Angle - Vengeance 2005
w/HHH vs Rated RKO (need to rewatch this)
vs John Cena - Wrestlemania 23
vs John Cena - RAW 2007
vs John Cena vs Randy Orton vs Edge - Backlash 2007
vs Ric Flair - Wrestlemania 24
vs Chris Jericho - Great American Bash 2008
vs Chris Jericho - No Mercy 2008
vs Undertaker - Wrestlemania 25

For anyone wondering, I didn't forget matches like WM X and WM 12, I just don't consider them great. There's plenty from before his return I've never seen though.
