Can A Quality Wrestler Get 100% Heat in Modern Wrestling?
I was bringing this up to Tom and I think it deserves a thread. I often hear things such as "blah blah isn't a good heel because he still gets face pops" but the more wrestling I watch, especially major companies, the more I see top heels like Chris Jericho, CM Punk, Randy Orton, etc. still getting cheers and even chants. While it's a minority of the audience, they still get cheered. Even people such as Umaga and Dolph have gotten quite a few cheers (and at times more cheers) than their opponent, even if the opposition is someone as over as Batista.
It seems like nobody can get 100% heat no matter what you do. DDT Stephanie, pops. Call the fans pot heads and drunks, pops. Cheat to win, pops. Edge is another shining example of this. Hell, Randy Orton changed his entire in ring personality, stopped taunting, etc. and STILL gets face pops despite being a chicken shit heel.
So is it possible to get 100% heat in modern wrestling and if not, how much can the individual wrestlers be faulted for the pops they get?

I don't think it is possible. You can get GREAT heat without having everybody in the arena on your back, and many do. CM Punk's heat recently has been insane, but still you will get a minority chanting his name during matches. The WWE audience is so varied now that you are always going to get fans of the bad guys no matter what they do, provided they are interesting characters and can produce good stuff in the ring. The most you can hope for is that the vast majority boo you.

Considering that there are people out there who actually enjoy heel wrestlers more than face wrestler i doubt it will ever happen. There will always be fans of heel wrestler who wish to cheer for them during matches etc... Vickie may of been the closest to getting 100% heat (If you want to count her). CM Punk is getting a insane amount of heat as well but as Tommy said there are still fans out there who cheer his name. I'd be very surprised if any wrestler is able to get every single fan in the arena to hate him.

No one can get 100% heat and it's been that way for a long time.
Getting a few cheers from smarks or contrarians doesn't make you a bad heel, it is only when you start getting cheered over the face it becomes a problem. Only it's most basic level, the role of the heel is to make the babyface look good.

Among casual fans, possibly. With so called "smarks", no. CM Punk is a good example, he is supposed to be a heel but he still gets a lot of cheers.
Of coarse, with older wrestlers it's almost impossible to get heat. Even when Sgt. Slaughter was slamming Canadians in Canada he was still getting some cheers. Same thing with Ted DiBiase. The only time he was really a face in his career was when he was the manager of the Steiner Bros. in WCW around 1996, but he gets cheered whenever he shows up on TV.

Another question is whether 100% heel heat was even possible back in the day? In his heyday, Flair was a heel everywhere but the Carolinas, but he apparently got some face pops from small segments. I don't know that the "Internet smark" type fan is a new thing - its just a new form of it.

I hate fans that cheer the heels.
I love guys like CM Punk and Edge, but when I'm at a live show, I still boo them if they are the heels. Just because you're a smart fan doesn't mean you shouldn't play along.

I agree with this. It's like people think they are helping their fav heel wrestlers by cheering them. That's not what they want to hear lol. If you like them, give them the reaction they are looking for.

I couldn't agree more. I hate the whole contrarian "I cheer who I want not who I'm told!" approach of some douchebags.
