Mysterio didn't win the WWE Championship, but I get what you are saying (although I think Mysterio only got a pity reign due to him being so close to Eddie Guerrero). While it's no longer needed to be tall to be a main eventer in WWE, the odds are still against short wrestlers.

Mysterio didn't win the WWE Championship, but I get what you are saying (although I think Mysterio only got a pity reign due to him being so close to Eddie Guerrero). While it's no longer needed to be tall to be a main eventer in WWE, the odds are still against short wrestlers.
I absolutely cannot stand when people make this comment. Nothing personally against you but that is the most idiotic fucking thing that I constantly hear regurgitated on wrestling boards. Jesus Christ on a bicycle.
Mysterio got the reign because he appeals to both Hispanics and Kids.....two of WWE's widest demographics. He sells a ton of merch, is one of the only true ratings draws in WWE (hispanic viewers on Smackdown, doesn't draw shit on Raw), and is over. Bottom line, Mysterio got the belt because Mysterio with the belt=Money. The butchering of the way that he was booked is irrelevant.

Rey was nowhere near the world title picture until Eddie died and Rey has never been treated as a legit world title contender since his title reign ended. He was only given the title because of Eddie's death. He was never a credible world champion due to his size, and he will never get another world title. I like Mysterio as much as the next guy, but I don't consider his reign a legit one as he only got it because of Eddie.

Since people wanted to discuss this I figured instead of discussing it in a thread unrelated we should make a thread for it. Would Rey have won the World title if Eddie didn't pass?
I personally think it's incredibly obvious he would have been given a World title push either way, just not so soon and not in such a big way. He has been getting huge wins all the year before over guys like Eddie, Angle, etc. was frequently on top of the card in tag matches and was becoming more and more over. He sold plenty of merch as well.
If nothing else he would have gotten during the time where Smackdown was plagued with injuries but I'm pretty certain he was being groomed for a future run anyway.
I always thought with Rey it was too much overkill with the Eddie tributes, yes it was good he was honoring his friend but if anything i would of expected it more from Chavo since he was family.
I do think Rey is good at what he does but i've always only ever seen him as a top midcarder and nothing higher which is why since he lost the WHC, he's been pretty much no where near it since.
I have to agree with Mikk here. Mysterio is a good wrestler, and I am a fan of his, but I do not think he would have gotten a world title if Eddie Guerrero hadn't died.
He was nowhere near the world title picture before WWE started pushing Rey around the Royal Rumble with them shoving the "i'm doing this for Eddie" stuff down our throats. Rey never seemed like a credible world champion due to his size. I know size isn't everything in wrestling, but I did not buy him being able to continually beat all those bigger wrestlers. Since King Booker won the title from him, Rey has never been in the world title picture and that leads me to think it was nothing more than a pity reign from WWE. Rey is one of those wrestler to me that could have some good success at the mid-card level, but not at the main event level. If Eddie was still alive, I don't think we would be calling Mysterio a former world champion.

IMO eventually he may of won the world title if Eddie was still around today he wouldn't of won it so soon. Eddie's passing was the reason for why the WWE gave Rey the title no doubt about it. A fan favourite has just passed away. Giving the title to one of his closet friends seems like a very nice gesture & a good way to make the company some money so why not?
Personally i hated the fact that he won the title when he did simply because he was benefiting off of Eddie's death. If he got a world title shot under different circumstances i don't think i would of cared to much.
