Do you think gimmicks matter anymore? Do they help people get over as much as they used to? Are you hesitant to get behind a wrestler simply because of a gimmick? Conversely, do you like a wrestler because of a gimmick?

People like more down to earth gimmicks, but something to allow people to stand out still helps, eg "Straight Edge superstar" is doing wonders for Punk.
Look at wrestlers such as Delirious, El Generico, The Undertaker, Kane, Mankind and others. While they are talented to some degree, they got over because of their gimmicks. Delirious is a great example of this. You could either have another short white indy wrestler that are a dime a dozen or someone extremely memorable. Gimmicks have nearly always been in wrestling dating back to the evil German or Russians. They work since they give us a reason to like or hate someone before they even lock up.
