I've always been a fan of the beatdown as it hypes up any feud instantly, especially when it's a face on the receiving end of it.
There's something about watching a fan favourite get absolutely destroyed to stunned silence, or a booing and screaming crowd. There is a tangible feeling of people being upset or angry or even disturbed by what they are seeing. In my opinion, this makes for great entertainment.
One of the best that I can think of is New Age Outlaws on L.O.D. way back in about '97. I think that match made N.A.O. (before they wrestled Foley and Funk). N.A.O. humiliated L.O.D. by destroying them physically, then shaving Hawks head.
Another is Austin and HHH on The Hardy's and Lita. This one was shocking and very violent. Lita got her ass kicked hard by Austin and HHH.
A great diva beatdown was Jackie on Trish after a long streetfight with Victoria. I think the divas could use a beatdown right now, as they have become incredibly boring and feature lifeless matches. A Gail Kim heel turn with a viscious beatdown on Mickie would be great for the womens division.
Any opinions out there? What's the best beatdown?
I actually meant to put a question mark on the end of that title...I just don't know how to do it now. Oh well.
I enjoyed the beatdown Samoa Joe gave to Booker T in Bookers hometown although made Booker look like sh*t and really weak, also the ending was awful but I felt the beating Joe gave him that night was emphatic and believable and propelled Joe to an absolute dominant machine that is out of control.

Off the top of my head, Austin, Vince and Hunter beating down the Rock in the steel cage the night after Wrestlemania was probably my favourite. Austin and Trips battering the Hardys and Lita with chairs was also great.
Homicide/Cabana fued also had some incredible beatdowns.
I do like the Stone Cold, HHH beatdown on The Rock. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about. Very underhanded.
Another classic beatdown is when the NWO completely destroyed Macho Man, going so far as to paint an outline of his body in the ring, as Elizabeth was forced to watch.
Personally I've never understood the whole Samoa Joe thing. I'm not sure why he's supposed to be able to destroy a multiple champion like Booker. That's not fair to a great wrestler like Booker T. I think Samoa Joe is boring and has no charisma.
I remembered another one that I quite liked was when HHH turned his back on Ric Flair in 2005. HHH turned his back on his best friend, using the sledgehammer. Flair was left a bloody mess in the ring and the crowd were in stunned silence because I for one never saw it coming sitting at home and I'm pretty sure they never either.

Jericho beating the absoulute shit out of flair when Jericho was on on his rampage of the legends before Mania 25. I think Flair bladed so it made it alot better considering the pg rating lately

Shane McMahon's air punches when he was beating down Randy Orton. As if a 40 year old man beating up your top heel wasn't bad enough, his punches were missing by a mile. It looked like he was trying to fight a ghost that was standing in front of Orton.
While the weekly nWo beatings grew tiresome as time passed since it was the same thing over and over, it did create several really good ones. My favorite was early on in the nWo, I believe it was still just the founding three members, when the nWo attacked several wrestlers backstage at MGM studios. Nash would throw Rey Mysterio Jr. like a lawn dart head first into a trailer. TNA tried to replicate the image in 2004 with the Kings of Wrestling attacking some lowcarders and Amazing Red playing the role of Mysterio. However, it wasn't nearly as memorable.

Those are some good ones. The HHH on Ric Flair one was very strange. I remember it had something to do with Flair lowering himself to wanting the IC title and HHH wanting to put him down like a dog or something.
The Jherico on Flair beatdown was hilarious. I loved when Jherico threw his shoes into the crowd.
Whenever stripping is involved there is an added sense of humiliation. I can remember HHH being stripped by Steiner one time and the next 3 weeks Steiner was hammered by Evolution and left lying in the ring. Great stuff.
The NwO beatings did become tiresome after a while. I never watched WCW all that much back in the day. Just now and again. They did, as was said, have a few classics.
I always hate it when the McMahons get themselves into the main events (unless it`s Stephanie) and end up holding their own, or even come off looking tougher than, whoever they`re up against. Shane can fly across the ring and take a few falls, but c`mon man.
The worst beatdowns (as in shittiest) I can remember were when Vince kept beating Hogan down. I always hated Hogan my whole life, but c`mon man! It`s Hulk Hogan. Suddenly Vince is kicking his ass? Ridiculous. Hogan just looked like a joke.
Well, I haven't seen many of the WWF or WCW ones but one that sticks out in my head is when Eddie turned heel and beat down Rey. Ripping Rey's mask off, it was pretty brutal.
