RobyD's Review Thread

So I like to review shows. I decided why not make a thread for it, so I don't have a bunch of reviews all over in each of the different threads. These will go into detail. I'll consistently do Raw, ECW, iMPACT! and Smackdown! and inconsistenty do the PPV's of both WWE and TNA as well as ROH's show on HDNet.

Re: RobyD's Review Thread

<big><big><big>ECW Review</big></big></big>

-Tiffany's Adress

-The show began with Tiffany adressing the trade which was announced on Monday. The promo was rather lackluster, but she covered that the new superstar innitiative was back in status, as inconspicuous by the next match.

-Shelton Benjamin vs. Yoshi Toutsu

-So we started with a funny promo from Benjamin, teasing the young asian star from Japan. After the promo, which was a pretty damn good display of charisma from Benjamin, he continued to taunt Toutsu with asian stereotypes. Benjamin decided to make one last insult before finishing, tauntingly bowing to Toutsu. This led to a swift kick across Benjamin's head, putgting him down for the 1-2-3 and the crowd was fucking high for this guy. Like, wow he was over. Hopefully this continues, and we see Benjamin tkaing a more serious attempt next week, so we can see his wrestling ability. But wow, the pop was huge.

-Abraham Washington's Talk Show

-You get it!?! Like Abraham Lincoln.....and George Washington!?!?! My GOD this was horrible. It was like a bad comedian. I don't know if it was supposed to be like that or what. His voice was annoying, his punchline-esque attempt at humor was pathetic. Unfortunately, I can see the entire internet jumping on his dick. Almost as bad as him was WWE memory loss, in both of the Bellas supposedley never breaking apart in the first place.

-Sheamus O'Seanousy vs. Oliver John

-MARK THE FUCK OUT. He started with a decent short promo, but I promise, they get better. The match was basically a competetive squash, with Oliver John getting a small come back and little offense, but most of the match belonged to Sheamus. It was some okay wrestling, but not enough to show anything special. Sheamus won with an elivated Urinagi/Sidewalk Slam.

-Regal/Vladmir promo

-This was short and sweet. Regal tried to make sure that Kozlof remembered their strategy so as to make sure Regal wasn't emarrased on his first night. Kozlof said he understood, and that he was going to embarass Regal. It was good and watchable, something just to hold us over until the main event and keep us interested. It did just that. I'm hoping that Regal isn't actually embarassed, and that he is actually legit on ECW.

-Tyler Rex/Zach Ryder promo

-Another typical ECW short promo, but it was to mainly introduce Tyler Rex and to announce a match between Rex and Ryder on Superstars on Thursday. Rex was decent on the mic from what he showed. He appears to have some sort of hippy gimmick. Hopefully its not too over the top.

-Dreamer/Christian promo

-Another short promo. Dreamer asked Christian if he was ready, Christian said yes, but looked bothered by something. Dreamer reacted hostil, but Christian assured him it was just that he promised his fans when he rebuted in that very building he'd be ECW Champion. There was a little bit of humor in it, but it was mostly to further the Christian/Dreamer feud. It was pretty good.

-Dreamer/Christian vs. Regal/Kozlof

-The crowd was generally hot during this show, but not so much for Kozlof, nor Regal for that matter. Not a lot of heat either. Crowd was big for Dreamer, but even bigger for Christian of course. Regal and Cage started with a lot of chaining going on. Typical greatness from both Regal and Christian. Notable awesome commentary and impressive facts from Matt Striker during the match. Kozlof was tagged in and dominated Christian for a short time, until he got the tag to Dreamer. Dreamer and Kozlof went back and forth, about even, with a not so chain or technical style, but it was good none the less. Christian was tagged back in moments before the commercial break. As we came back, Dreamer and Regal were back in with Regal dominated Dreamer, keeping him grounded. Kozlof back in sees more dominance, much more roughly. Regal in again, as the two maintain and icolate Dreamer. Dreamer comes back very quickly though, and makes a hot tag to Christian, who keeps the fire and unloads on Regal, hitting a high missile Dropkick. Kozlof makes the tag as Regal/Christian draw a stale mate and Christian is unable to make a tag in time. Kozlof takes advantage and dominates Christian some more. Keeping the icolation going, Regal makes a tag. Regal keeps on Christian, even snapping a sweet looking Arm Drag until Kozlof makes the tag again and continues to ground Christian. Christian nearly makes a come back but Kozlof stops ity with some Headbutts to his shoulder and Tags Regal back in. As Regal has the Wrist Lock, Christian almost makes the Tag but Regal is able to stop it. Around this time, the crowd is hot for Regal as he obsorbs some major heat. Soon there is a double tag and Dreamer and Kozlof are back in. Dreamer takes the early advantage, but they got back and forth. Christian and Regal head off the apron to the outside. As the fight inside the ring continues, Christian is taken out and Regal tags back in. Regal/Dreamer go back and forth, with Regal finally getting the better of it, hitting an Exploder Suplex, but Kozlof tags ihmself in. Kozlof finishes Dreamer, but the bigger story of the Kozlof/Regal def. Christian/Dreamer is Regal being upset that he had Dreamer finished and Kozlof stealing the thunder. They played it off with Regal hiding it, but being obviously upset. It looks like there is a feud in the making.

-Overall

-Over all, this was a very good ECW, I think. A lot different from the normal show we get. It had a lot less wrestling and a lot more entertainment, which is fine because we're introducing more characters on this show. It makes sense. I feel as though they did a good job in introducing 4 new superstars today, and didn't overwhelm us. The one real match we did get was right on the dot. Plenty full of action, but also furthering/creating two feuds in Dreamer/Christian and Kozlof/Regal. The other two matches were rather squashes but they at least served a purpose in introducing a new wrestler. I'll give this show a 7.5/10. It was very good, but not great. Hopefully next week we get a little more wrestling to get to know the wrestlers a little bet. I should add an extra .5 just for the debut of Sheamus, but all is well.

Re: RobyD's Review Thread

<big><big><big>iMPACT! Review</big></big></big>

-Opening Promo - This opening promo was good, entertainment wise. I mean, the mic skills were compelling and Angle did a really good job defining the Godfather character. Booking wise though, it horrible and overbooked. So MEM hates Foley, who just wants to be left alone but hates Jarret, who hates both MEM and Foley and came out to fend off MEM just to hit Foley with the guitar himself? Okay, whatever.

-Morgan/MEM promos - From the looks of it, Angle and the Mafia are going to be dangling a position in front of Morgan, only for him to become impatient and side with the young side...which is good news if you ask me. I like Morgan, think he's charismatic and good on the mic, as well as in the ring. He definitely looks like a main eventer. Being involved with this angle can only help him, if you ask me. Doesn't matter which side he takes. It looks like they are involved more of the younger stars again. Hopefully they stick to whatever they are planning with him.

-Sharmell/Jenna promos - They had a little bit of time, which was good, because it's one of the less important matches.

-Abyss Promos - Alright, so the guy flips out due to someone else's advice and it seems like he's back to his old self. I marked out. So we're gonna have Abyss vs. Stevie in some 10,000 Machetes match and Abyss is going to destroy Stevie right? Right? I am right am I Vince? I mean, this entire four months of booking wasn't nothing was it? Hell, certainly you wouldn't book Abyss to revert back to his old self for no reason would you Vince? Oh. More ridiculous angles. Okay. So Stevie has kidnapped whatserface and is implying he's going to rape her. That's....um....yeah. Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible!

-Amazing Red vs. Cody Deaner - This one was a hard one to judge. It was literally up and down. Wacky stuff and antics from Deaner when he was in control and then fun high spots from Red when he was in control. It told a story I guess, wit hthe whole stupid Deaner learning from ODB thing, and him going up to the top even though it hadn't been taught to him yet. It was okay, I guess.

-Eric Young vs. Rhino - This was a pretty meh match. Nothing special, but it wasn't horrible. EY won, thank God, but the best thing about this match was definitely Young smacking the shit out of Neal.

-Beautiful People vs. Awesome Kong and Tara - Pretty short match, which is typical of Womens wrestling but it was very good for that short time. I liked the match, and I guess it got done what it got done. The spider shit was a little over the top, they couldn't just stick to bad ass psycho Victoria? Also with the looks of it, they'll have Tara win the Title and Kong turn on her, Heelin it up again. I was kind of hoping they'd wait to pull the trigger on this. Oh well. Good match, ruined by the storyline consequences of it.

-Team 3D vs. Booker T and Scott Steiner - This match was surprisingly better from what I'd expect from four over the hill wrestlers. It wasn't exceptional, no, but it was good and definitely watchable. They gave it about as much time as it should have gotten, and had good commentary at the same time, with Beer Money on the booth with them. The only thing was the match was horribly over booked with Bashir/Kiyoshi coming out and taking out Beer Money and then The British Invasion coming out and costing Team 3D the match. So we now have five teams involved with the Tag Titles, which is fine, it makes it important. The only difference is that we had Booker and Steiner go over, meaning that Team 3D and British Invasion are feuding but Kiyoshi/Bashir were pretty pointless. They aren't going to be in the match. They were just to perhaps stop Beer Money from helping Team 3D? IDK. Good match, way too overbooked.

-Jeff Jarret and AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe - Wholey shit they actually gave this match time. 15 minutes in fact. The only thing wrong with this match was that it was a World Title match. Kurt and Jarret were great like always. Joe and AJ were great as always. This match was just really fun. It was weird. TNA switched into serious mode for once, and we had a real main event to take serious, for the first time in however long I can remember. The ending was great, with the Tag Teaser which would have led to Jarret escaping the Ankle Lock. Ending up with him passing out since he didn't want to tap but couldn't get out. Good match, surprisingly not overbooked.

Ending - Well AJ came down to make the save for Jarret who was being picked apart, but AJ of course can't defend 5 on 1, is destroyed by the Main Event Mafia, while is shows Morgan taking out Daniels. Crowd is chanting "Same old shit" at this, and I have to agree with the five 40 year olds beating up the 25 year old and the other 40 year old, which leads to another 40 year old in Sting making the save and taking the Title. Stupid, I'm tired of beatdowns just like the crowd is. I was to see the young blood pull through finally.

-Overall - I was okay with this Impact. A lot of it was good just lack luster, and the rest of it was good but overbooked. The lack of Foley was a good thing, I was a little burnt out of him. The lack of Sting had the same great effect. I even think that Angle was out of the show enough for my liking. I realised during this show that one of my favorite things is TNA's ongoing short/mini promos through out the night. A lot of them are funny or whatever genre they are looking for and they do the job they are supposed to. More importantly, they are something that the WWE doesn't do and that's a good thing. The show also had a fair bit of wrestling in it and not as much BS as usual. Overbookingess of matches didn't help that though. Lack of Suicide, MCMG, Red, and Lethal Consequences sucks, especially since I feel that this was a generally overbooked show and adding them into the mix would have exasperated that, which means that TNA definitely needs to fire some people. I think I feel pretty okay about watching this Impact, and the only big gripe I really have is a lot of the show being overbooked and the continuation of the over the hill guys dominating the show. Overall, I'd give this show a 7/10. They still need to step it up.

Re: RobyD's Review Thread

<big><big><big>Raw Review</big></big></big>

-Ted Dibiase Promo

So we opened up with the Million Dollar Man's music and he got a pretty good reaction up until Legacy came out. He was kind of on the fence for the majority of the promo, but he leaned more on the Heel side. Turns out that he was definitely a Face, booking Rhodes vs. Henry and Dibiase, Jr. vs. Orton while persuading his son that he was better than Orton but treated as nothing but a lacky. I thought the promo overall was good, but I definitely think that he should have come in as a Heel and booked Legacy into good news. The guy was a Heel for the majority of his career and him coming out being a Face was just backwards. Oh well, good first promo.

-Edge/Orton vs. The Colons

The match was decent. If the four were given time, the ycould have put on a really good match, but that wasn't the case. It was good, like I said. Definitely a solid opener. After Jericho and Edge both hit their finishers on Primo and pinned him, Carlito turned on him. This, I disagree with. They were a hot Tag Team and I feel that if they were given more time that they could have built up even more steam, especially with more interaction with Legacy. Hopefully this leads to a push for Carlito. I'm personally not too keen on Primo, but I can see the push being handed to him, as the babyface.

-Ted Dibiase, Jr./Randy Orton Promo & Match

I thought that the promo was good, and it certainly had me interested in the match. I just think that they are pulling the trigger on Dibiase far too early. They should have added a third member to the group to team Rhodes and allow Dibiase to hit up a coupe of U.S. Title reigns. He's hardly over, but unfortunately, I can see WWE having Rhodes walk out on him at the NOC. So anyways, the match was very good for a TV match. They made Dibiase seem credible as they had Orton play that he was just teaching Dibiase how much better than him he was but Dibiase was taking advantage. Orton was finally able to win, but Orton came out with respect for Dibiase as an equal.

-Maryse & Alicia Fox vs. Mickie James and Gail Kim

For a Womens/Divas match, this was very good. I feel like Maryse and McCool are the two best women in the WWE today. Obviously there are better athletes, but I just dig the mean streak of both women. It's the first time I've seen a WWE Diva tell a story in the ring since James/Stratus. Kim went over, pinning Maryse, which was weird but I like it. I think we'll see MAryse winning and then Gail taking it from her in the next coming months.

-Mark Henry/Cody Rhodes Promo and Match
We got a cute little promo in the back with Rhodes offering Dibiase money to call off the match but it wasn't enough. They talked about how great Dusty was but it turns out that Dibiase hated Rhodes. lol. Henry went over Rhodes as they try and build this weird babyface for some reason. It was either a good squash or a bad match, but it was watchable I guess.

-Jack Swagger and MVP VIP Lounge
Wow, I really dug this. I'm a subscriber to Swagger and his amazing amazingness, so that definitely helped. They talked aobut MVP and his past as a criminal and MVP said he uses his celebrity status to persuad kids not to make the choices he did. MVP also called Swagger a fraud and got in his face with Swagger backing down. This feud is going to be amazing and the match will be pretty good too. Can't wait.

-Evan Bourne vs. Kofi Kingston
So, the match was pretty damn good. I loved it. A lot of fun up and downs from both men, and Cole put over that they have the same style etc. It showed them both off and gave them both time. Bourne won, and rightfully so. This, though, led to Big Show coming out and burying both men. Two thumbs down WWE.

-John Cena vs. Triple H
But this was a big two thumbs up. Like, it is weird complimenting Cena as much as I have, but he has improved so much. Never thought I'd say that he will save the Orton/Triple H match. This match had these two at a stale mate for the entire match was was a lot of fun. I'd give it ***1/2 stars. Ended with Legacy coming down to take out both men and a double DQ, hoping that he'd have to face neither men. Turns out he had to face both as per Dibiase.

Overall

Overall this was the best Raw in a very long time, and the first one I could take seriously as well. A lot of wrestling and very little talking. When it was talking it was short and serious. Back to the basics. They got a lot done tonightm in building Night of Champions and foreshadowing feuds in the future. I'll give this past Raw a 810. Very good job.

RAW was loads better this week, for sure. Dibiase vs. Orton @ WM 26? Would be interesting.

You cover TNA too though. I don't think you copied me so its fine. In fact, I only did mine because Ken said he wanted to do one and I got in before him.

Nice reviews, as you can see from mine, I agree that RAW was fairly good this week in comparison to some of the recent ones.
