Since ROH is in their transitional period with Pearce, which is leading to a decrease in the kind of match quality I'm used to, it's gotten to the point where I can't rely on just watching mainly this one promotion. So I've missed out a lot lately. I'm probably the one person here YET to see HBK/Taker from 'Mania and I'm hearing good things about this Jack Swagger fellow. It's because of this lack of viewing a lot that isn't ROH, that I can't take part in much other discussion. So just tell me anything you feel is necessary to watch from...anything. WWE, TNA, whatever. As long as it's not from too long ago (I'm not bothered about anything from before late-2008), then I'll try to give it a watch.
Just because it's in this section, don't let it fool you. Reccommend me some CHIKARA, NOAH and PWG stuff, etc.
The only great WWE matches this year so far are Taker/HBK, Christian/Swagger (24/2/09) and the RAW elimination chamber from No Way Out. Though the latter may not be to everyone's tastes depending on wether you like the stip and the booking or not. Christian/Swagger is probably the closest to an ROH match I guess.
From the indy scene I would say check out the Olsen/Gerrard ladder match and all of the Uppercut matches from KOT in CHIKARA. Olsen/Gerrard you may need to know the backstory a bit for it but it's still the sort of match I imagine you would enjoy. The Uppercut matches are just a load of fun. The match against the Roughnecks is just a fun as hell match that has some good comedy and good serious wrestling to boot. It may enlighten you to why people like Kingston, too. And the match against 1,000 holds is also just a great match.
I havent been so hot on a lot of 2009 NOAH, though the Tag League Finals with Misawa/Go vs Sasaki/Morishima is getting a lot of love and you may dig that. Not sure wether thats postd here or not but it's on "that site". All the NJ vs NOAH tags, Misawa/Sugiura vs Nakamura/Goto, Go/Sugiura vs Nakamura/Milano and Goto/Okada vs Sugiura/Aoki, are all great. I'm not sure if they are for everyone, but there's a lot to like there. Maybe the best fued in wrestling this year. I'd also recommend the two big BJW deathmatches, Miyamoto/Sasaki vs Takeda/Isami and Ito/Ishikawa vs Takeda/Isami. No doubt they are not for everyone and there are many a light-tubes broken but the story-telling and emotion is top notch if you are willing to give them a shot. All of those are posted here I think or on "that site".
So yeah, thanks for the list of stuff. I've already seen Swagger/Christian and Taker/HBK now and hopefully I'll be able to go through the rest.
Swagger/Christian was definitely a very good match and probably one of the best performances I've actually seen from Christian. I really think I could get into Swagger as well, I thought he was really impressive.
Taker/HBK was overrated, I thought, but that was bound to happen considering everyone was giving it 5* immediately. Maybe I needed to know the storyline. It was great for a dream match scenario, but I just didnt feel like it was anything epic before and after the two diving spots.
Motive, Means, Oppurtunity- Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw vs. Cheech and Cloudy
King Of Trios 2009 Night 2- El Generico vs. Nick Jackson vs. Jigsaw vs. Kota Ibushi
King Of Trios 2009 Night 3- Kudo, Michael Nakazawa & The Osirian Portal vs. The Colony & The North Star Express
King Of Trios 2009 Night 3- Kota Ibushi vs. Player Dos
Behind The 8 Ball- Shadow Phoenix vs. Gran Akuma
Behind The 8 Ball- Colin Delaney vs. Jimmy 'Equinox" Olsen
Behind The 8 Ball- Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw vs. The Osirian Portal
Thanks, hopefully I can get into CHIKARA, given all the hype it's been given for a while now. I've seen the Gerard/Equinox ladder match now and it was very good stuff.
Yessir. The ladder match was very good. Also check out The Colony vs. The Osirian Portal from Revelation X. Steve didn't think it was as good as I was saying, but it's worth checking out.
I'd recommend the Young Bucks vs Roderick Strong and Davey Richards from PWG's The Gentle Art of Making Enemies. It's my favorite tag match of the year thus far.
