How to get wrestling fans interested in WRESTLING again
Like Jake Roberts said in a shoot, wrestling will have to go back to the way it was, it goes in cycles, like fashion. So how do you think the big leagues can sell scientific, technical wrestling to the young masses who watch WWE? It worked back in the dizay, I think if someone knew the formulae, it could only be beneficial.
Re: How to get wrestling fans interested in WRESTLING again
By bringing in and pushing talent who know how to do that? Would have thought the answer would have been quite obvious. Then again, if you are talking about kids specifically you have to remember they don't care about the actual wrestling so much as characters and the drama.
Re: How to get wrestling fans interested in WRESTLING again
Well, it's supposed to be pro wrestling, the wrestling ancestors like Stu Hart, Lou Thesz, etc. will probably be spinning in their graves.
It's more talking than wrestling half the time nowadays. Maybe reintroducing the wrestling part of it will get more adults interested, so there'll be a bigger fanbase.
Re: How to get wrestling fans interested in WRESTLING again
Wrestling was nothing but a glorified carnival act until they introduced storylines amoungst other things. Most wrestling fans would rather a good storyline over a sixty minute technical match.

Why would they be spinning in their graves??? Is Stu Hart even dead?
If you are talking about the WWE specifically, I get what you are saying though the way they have structured their shows it is supposed to be:
TV Shows - developing characters, promos, building fueds and ultimately building towards the PPV
PPVs - paying off all the development and building, through matches
Granted that isn't the case all the time but whatever.
If you are talking about the business as a whole you are still quite off the mark. Hell, tune into ECW, they have about 5 minutes worth of talking and the rest of the show is all matches. There are plenty of alternatives out there on the independant scene too which are of course mostly matches than anything else.
Then again, I'm still not really sure what you point actually is...

Why does it have to be one or the other? Or either at all?
Re: How to get wrestling fans interested in WRESTLING again
Steve is the only one making a decent point here...
Pro Wrestling isn't supposed to be EPIC CHAIN WRESTLINGZ~!!!!! or Jerry Springer shit. It's supposed to be a mixture. Wrestling is about drama, both from in the ring and out of the ring. Their is no reason why it should be all about chain wrestling but on the other hand, their is no reason why someone who is actually good at it shouldn't get over because of it. Why do so many amateur wrestlers get over? Because of their mat skills, raw power at times, and realism. But the reason why someone like Charlie Haas or Shelton Benjamin rarely gets over or stays over unlike someone like Brock or Angle is because it's not just about the in ring aspect.
Pro wrestling is always about the in ring action but the matches need to have importance. You shouldn't just have two guys trading headlocks and expect to get over.
Granted everything i'm saying should be insanely obvious but...
