Re: What defeats a great match?

It still made it a hell of a lot more memorable than it would have been if the crowd was more like.... well the crowd in a Triple H Wrestlemania main event without Cena. Take this year for example lol.

Re: What defeats a great match?

The two biggest things would be booking and chemistry. Booking involves so many elements from how the match is lay out to the position of the match on the card. How many matches suffered from just poor positing? Sometimes it's not to easy to predict when you'll have a show stealer, but in the case of Wrestlemania 18, it was obvious that Hogan vs Rock was going to be that. So to have the title match in the main event was just a poor move to do. Sometimes even when booking is good enough, the wrestlers are either having an off night or just flat out have bad chemistry together. Case in point, CM Punk and Bryan Danielson. Even though they have great chemistry with the same wrestlers (Joe, Homicide and Aries) their matches together weren't as good as they could have been. So even though their matches are good, the expectations were better which keeps it from being great.

Not sure if you could see it on the PPV broadcast, but the crowd started doing the wave out of boredom during the main event at WM this year. They didn't really turn on the match - they just stopped caring. That is not a good thing. Ever.

The same could be said about Wrestlemania this year with Michaels/Taker, although the crowd were still into the triple threat which followed, I guess because Cena is actually entertaining. They were epic dead for Triple H/Orton. Boring match and proof that Triple H shouldn't be where he is. Then the following PPV he gets the "please retire" chants lol.

Re: What defeats a great match?

There booing Cena and cheering the heel in the triple threat.... just sayin'....

Atleast they weren't walking out like they were during Jericho/Trips.

Really? I thought Cena got cheers. Oh well.

A reaction > no reaction.

Re: What defeats a great match?

You didn't hear the boos when he came out or whenever he was controlling the match? He got mega heat when he had Edge in the STF.

I agree a reaction is better than none, but still...

Re: What defeats a great match?

Yeah as is often the case with Cena, it was mixed rather than negative. Either way, its a lot of noise whenever he is in main events, unlike the likes of Triple H and Batista.
