The internet killed kayfabe? Wrestling was hardly a secret before the internet came around. Whether it was newspapers getting results of shows before they happened in the 50's, the increase of violence in the 80's, McMahon himself saying it's a work in a courtroom in the 90's or the rise of the dirt sheets in the 80's and 90's. Kayfabe died long before the internet became popular. The only difference is that it became easier to learn more about the reality of wrestling.
I've always had the idea that the Internet is one of the factors that killed off kayfabe completely. It was a process well underway by that point, but I always considered the Internet and the Montreal incident the point where the curtain completely fell away. Where it became apparent that it was all fake, not just predetermined results and such. I could very well be wrong, but its always the impression I've had.

The Montreal Screw Job was a major kayfabe killer. However, I wouldn't say the internet was at it's peak yet while Vince McMahon was going on Raw talking about Bret screwing Bret and admitting it's all a work.

I seriously don't understand why wrestling companies find it so hard to keep a secret. Why is there always some dick on the internet knowing about future storylines and returns? I honestly don't see how that can come about, maybe somebody can enlighten me?
That is by far the most annoying thing about the internet. Seeing big returns that are supposed to be surprising, but you knew they were gonna happen anyway. On the other hand, when one does remain a secret, it makes it even more impactful, eg Cena at the Rumble last year.

Quite honestly, without the internet I wouldn't be fan (and as such many of my friends wouldn't be either, as I pushed them into it for the most part).
When I younger I would jump in and out of wrestling, I always enjoyed it but only ever picked it up every now and then. I guess you could say I was a casual fan. Right up until my early twenties when I got back into it and discovered forums on the internet and Powerslam magazine. I finally had people to not only to discuss my opinions with, but also to educate me in the past of wrestling (and in some cases the future).
If I didn't post here, I wouldn't be a wrestling fan because I'd be bored out of my fucking nut with the state of wrestling these days. I watch out of habit these days and I do avoid programme specific spoilers so as not to ruin any surprises. It's just all so very lacklustre these days. It's hard to get excited unless you have people to complain to... God, I love you guys (and girls... Their there somewhere right?). Haha!!
