My interest in wrestling is now finally, completely, and totally dead. I just had to look up world heavyweight champion is. I haven't been able to recite all the belt holders for years. Hell, I think I have tried and wanted to be genuinely interested in the actual shows, the wrestling and storylines, but It's been years since I actually have been. <O To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. 1st off with me it has always been "mainstream" with me. All of this AJPW/ROH/NOAH or whatever the hell they are these days never even came close to "clicking" with me the way the outlandish, at times cartoonish style that the WWE and WCW did. It really did not help that I found out about all of these promotions after I "smarked up".<O To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. THAT is something that sometimes I wish never happened. Come on now...who here doesn't yearn for good ole days where you embarrassed your mother by punching a wall after a heel you did not like won a mid-card match by cheating while she had friends over? I miss those magical little days... I would go to great, great, sometimes psychotic lengths to make sure I saw not only the big two, but also all of the hour long jobber fests that aired on the weekends. I did it because I loved what I was going on and of course believed everything I saw. I found the IWC almost immediately after the InVasion angle and it was never the same. <O To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. As the years swept by I gradually became much more interested with all of the "newz" sites and the behind the scenes stuff. It kind of grew from being just as interested with most of the in ring stuff (even if I knew it was all a farce) as the politics and "nuclear heatz0rs" backstage. To being so much more interested in the stuff online that I never talked about wrestling without getting in an argument over who should be booked this way or that way. I think that is what the IWC does to newbies to it's immature forums. It makes them elitist snobs who trash anything they disagree with as well as the alienation if not outright elimination of actual suspense, entertainment, or drama of the actual shows.<O To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. I won't even attempt to cite the crap I endured since 2002. Most of you know it all and likely have either discussed it to death while offering suggestions that fall on deaf ears or have tried to optimistically ignore it all while finding something to enjoy. I will passionately argue that the current years (for me that is probably 2005-now) are absolutely nothing compared to my hey day (96-01) at least in my opinion. Did it help that I was a mark? sure but I can go back and actually see some effort and creativity from the booking committee. It's like they're following cycles and quotas while adhering to whatever politics linger. <O To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. I haven't watched a single episode of ANY show in over 5 months. As far as my "adventures" on the net go I'm on probably once every 3 days. I checked the news on WA for the 1st time in almost 7 months 1 hour ago. <O To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. Anyone who has known me and has talked wrestling with me since PWS knows the one thing that will turn me into the mark at heart that has loooooong since died: A new ratings war from a competent, fresh, exciting promotion. I wanted TNA to succeed for so long, but I gave up on them eons ago. I don't think it will ever happen again... <O To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. Wrestlecrap is thee final wrestling anything that I visit with any frequency now. I recommend it for anyone interested in wrestling, especially the WWE.
Does anyone here feel their interest slowing dieing? Anyone got a story on why they watched in the 1st place? Most people here are a little older then me...what keeps you all watching?
Very interesting read there. I can completely relate to you on nowadays often being more interested in the backstage stuff than the actual in ring activity, I think i'd choose to watch a shoot interview over a show on most occasions.
I can also relate to an extent about it being different now that i'm a 'smart mark', than it is when your young. It's more of a struggle to suspend disbelief sometimes.
Maybe you should try getting into the business, perhaps a promoter so that you can 'do' wrestling how you think it should be done?
