Larry Sweeney has forced the NWA World Heavyweight Title into Ring Of Honor. The current champion, Adam Pearce, sent the following to the ROH offices. Sweeney told ROH officials that we have to put it on ROHwrestling.com or he will pull Pearce out of the advertised main event in Dayton on June 27th. That card will see Pearce vs. ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness in a historic Title vs. Title Match.
The following are the opinions of Adam Pearce and only Adam Pearce. These do not reflect the opinions of ROH management or employees. Here is what Pearce had to say:
“I hear it. I hear it loud and clear and I welcome it. So please, oh, wonderful wrestling fans and patrons of Ring of Honor, stand tall and scream loud. Type firmly on your keyboard haven and pontificate as only you can. Tell the world how I, the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce, do not deserve a shot at Nigel McGuinness, much less his coveted crown. Tell anyone you can how I’m a “jobber” and that I’ve done nothing in Ring of Honor to deserve this “opportunity”.
You know something, ROH Faithful? Maybe you’re right.
Maybe I am just a jobber. Maybe I don’t deserve anything. What have I done for Ring of Honor anyway? In fact, why do I even continue to retain employment? Why do I even wrestle? I have no “work rate” - my skills are mediocre at best. Hell, I ought to get a job digging ditches, delivering pizzas, or cutting grass.
Or maybe I’ve just simply been a pawn in the game played by Ring of Honor. Maybe the fact is that I’ve been pigeonholed and held back by Ring of Honor. I have fought, bled, and have scarred my body and mind for Ring of Honor. I’ve verbally defended its honor. I’ve physically battled its honor. I’ve proudly served as Lieutenant Commissioner - and done a damn good job - for its honor. And what have I received for it all? Not a damn thing. Not from Ring of Honor and even less from you – the beloved ROH fans.
And I’ve never complained. Not once. Not to Ring of Honor and obviously not to you “fans”. Never before, not now, and never in the future will I ever have to explain anything to you. You people spout your “expert” drivel, and unfortunately for me, it seems Ring of Honor pays attention to you. You people wag the dog time and again.
And then Larry Sweeney found me.
And that’s when everything changed. That’s when I changed.
Mr. Sweeney told me how he was disgusted by the fact the ROH wouldn’t recognize me as the NWA titleholder – the oldest and most historic title in all of professional wrestling. I’ve done interviews and in every one of them I’ve done my part in placating those asking about it - I’ve towed the ROH company line. I’ve said, “Its fine, ROH is ROH and the NWA is the NWA. Two separate entities with two different agendas. I’m lucky to wrestle for both.” I’ve said, “It doesn’t matter if ROH won’t recognize my NWA reign. It’s a great company and I’m happy to step into their ring.”
But it was Larry Sweeney that made me realize I was lying to myself. “Scrap Daddy, you never get your due in this company!” He said. “You created the Hangmen 3 based on the concept of need, but you’ve neglected your own for far too long!” And he was right. “Ring of Honor has disrespected you for too long! You’re a world champion wrestler, daddy! They don’t know what they have in you! But I can change that, baby. I can make eyes open wide for you! Join Sweet and Sour and let me make the world see who Adam Pearce is!” And he has. He’s done so to the disdain of you so-called wrestling fans, to the disdain of Ring of Honor, and unfortunately for him – to the disdain of Brent Albright.
Brent, I gave you the world. As a member of the Hangmen 3 we were brothers, fighting against the same shackles placed on us by ROH. And we could have been great if given half a chance. But you squashed that. I brought us to the brink of greatness when I made the choice to join Sweet-n-Sour. I gave us our best chance for success in Ring of Honor. But you couldn’t listen to me anymore. You heard the cries of the sheep and you had to buy in, like Whitmer before you, and now you’ve answered their cry. You failed me, Albright. You will look upon that choice, Brent, and you’ll know without question that it was your biggest mistake. All you had to do was listen, heed the words of myself and Sweeney, and collect. But you just couldn’t, could you Brent? Now it is with a great personal disdain that I have to deal with you. But you’re not alone.
Nigel McGuinness.
You see, I never called Nigel out. But in his arrogance, he decided to pound his chest, and so it is.
Nigel, I laughed when I read your comments about my “dusty old belt”. Your charming and presumptive attitude makes me smile, Nigel. I am glad you think you’ll do the “fans of Dayton” proud by winning my NWA belt. Please continue to look on me as if I’m no threat. I revel in that role as you may know, and I gladly accept it once more in Dayton. But I know you don’t really care about Dayton. Neither do I. In fact, no one does. Dayton is a cesspool. And in that cesspool on June 27th, I plan on shoveling it down your throat. You’ll be my greatest steppingstone, McGuinness. One step closer to respect, because you’ve added your name to my list. The list for people too blind to see that what they had was good enough; people too incompetent to understand that more can actually be less; and people for whom time ticks until the moment they look in my eyes and see their need, their truth.
First it was Brent Albright, and Nigel, now it’s you."
