Here is the latest edition of the ROH Business Notes:

-ROH is hoping to break its attendance record at the May 10th Hammerstein Ballroom debut in Manhattan, NY. Right now it is about 50/50 as to whether ROH's fans will give ROH a new record.

-ROH's May 9th debut in Manassas, Virginia is definitely going to be a test. ROH decided to take a gamble and head South to see what kind of market there would be for ROH. If ROH is successful with the May 9th Virginia debut then you can expect more shows South of Philadelphia. Only the fans can make this show a success with a strong turnout.

-May 9th & 10th will feature three top NOAH talents with GHC Heavyweight Champion Takeshi Morishima, GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champion Naomichi Marufuji and Go Shiozaki. This is the only time that all three top NOAH talents are scheduled for one weekend.

-ROH's retail releases "Bloodstained Honor" and "Stars Of Honor" were recently re-ordered in large quantities by FYE. Check your local FYE for both these DVDs featuring CM Punk and Samoa Joe among others. We urge you to continue to call your local Best Buy and let them know you want to see these titles from KOCH Vision on the Best Buy shelves.

-Daizee Haze recently worked TNA's TV tapings. This does not effect her status with ROH.

-Negotiations are taking place now to bring Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin back to ROH later in the summer. There are no other talks about any other TNA talent coming to ROH and nothing is on the table.

-New SHIMMER Champion MsChif will be booked more frequently in ROH as ROH recognizes the SHIMMER Title as the championship for its women's division.

-Mark Briscoe underwent successful surgery on April 25th. The injury was actually worse than originally thought. The surgery was supposed to repair the ligament in Mark's wrist. However, the surgery turned into a reconstruction as there was more damage than initially thought. The doctor said Mark had a lot of old injuries and the ligament finally snapped because the bones were actually out of line and pulling on the ligaments along with the impact of the injury itself. The doctor put the bones back where they belong and pinned them. Then he drilled a hole through Mark's arm and pulled a tendon from the other side of his arm and made it do the job of the torn ligament. The surgery was very involved, but the doctor said it went technically perfect. Recovery time will be 3-6 months.

-"Take No Prisoners" will debut on iN DEMAND, TVN Cable Systems and The DISH Network on May 30th. This is ROH's 6th pay-per-view. Production just finished on this PPV.

-Human Tornado was going to start a regular schedule with ROH in June but a knee injury has delayed his start date.

-A new ROH Video Wire, current ROH matches and another "Vaulted Classic" will be added soon to ROHvideos.com for everyone to watch for free. Matches including Roderick Strong vs. Pelle Primeau and Jigsaw & Ruckus vs. Adam Pearce & Shane Hagadorn from last March.

-ROH's "6th Anniversary Show" is the hottest selling DVD at ROHwrestling.com. Look for the March 28th and 29th Orlando, FL event DVDs and some out of stock titles to be available soon.

Yesterday, Ring of Honor "announced" that Lacey would miss this weekend's events. That announcement turned out to be the foreshadowing of an angle where Lacey, who had been recruiting Austin Aries to join boyfriend Jimmy Jacobs' Age of the Fall faction only to fall for Aries and leave Jacobs, was apparently assaulted by Jacobs in a parking lot. The Age of the Fall website, which is "independent" of ROH, posted the following video above, so the idea was to put a ton of heat on the Jacobs-Aries issue as Jacobs is seen pulling a weapon out of his trademark cane (the same weapon he used to injure ROH Tag Team champ Mark Briscoe and put him "out" for several months) after confronting his ex-girlfriend. Jay Briscoe & Aries face the Age of the Fall at the Hammerstein Ballroom this Saturday in New York City.

Expect ROH's Hammerstein debut to feature an upgraded production setup.

The next ROH PPV will likely air in August.

Daizee Haze has been added to this weekend's events.

Ring of Honor debuts this Friday in Manassas, Virginia. The final lineup for Friday's event is FIP champion Roderick Strong, & Rocky Romero & Davey Richards vs. The Pro Wrestling NOAH continent of GHC Heavyweight Champion Takeshi Morishima & Naomichi Marufuji & Go Shiozaki, Bryan Danielson vs. Tyler Black, ROH champion Nigel McGuinness vs. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright vs. Damien Wayne (non-title), Austin Aries vs. Erick Stevens, Jay Briscoe vs. Jimmy Jacobs, a No DQ bout featuring Jack Evans vs. Necro Butcher, and Rhett Titus & Rex Sterling vs. Mitch Franklin & Sean Denny.

Jonny Fairplay is apparently trying to get other Survivor cast members to appear or visit this weekend's NYC event as they are all in NY for a Survivor-related event this week.

ROH champ Nigel McGuinness, Bryan Danielson, BJ Whitmer (on an indefinite leave from the company) and Raptor (a masked Matt Cross, debuting the character) are all booked for the Pro Wrestling NOAH tour that kicks off 5/15.

Following this weekend's events, ROH is off until 6/6 in Hartford, CT and 6/7 in Philadelphia, PA. CT has been a hard market for the company and this show was postponed several months, so I am very curious to see how it draws.

ROH's Ring of Honor Video website has posted complete matches featuring Roderick Strong vs. Pelle Primeau and The Vulture Squad's Ruckus & Jigsaw vs. Adam Pearce & Shane Hagadorn.

1) FIP World Heavyweight Championship: Roderick Strong defeats Go Shiozaki & Erick Stevens to retain the FIP World Championship. Strong pinned Erick Stevens. "Great opener" (Note: Possibly better than Collyer & Stryker from Expect The Unexpected)

2) Tag Team Challenge Match: Kevin Steen & El Generico defeat Rocky Romero & Davey Richards. Steenerico wins with the Piledriver/Brainbuster combination as Generico pins Davey Richards.

3) Tag Team Scramble: Delirious & Pelle defeat Hero & Albright and Evans & Jigsaw. Delirious pins Chris Hero.

- Brent ALBRIGHT quits Sweet & Sour, Inc. ALBRIGHT destroys all members and leaves! Huge ovation for Mr. ALBRIGHT!

- Attendence near 2,000.

- ROH Returns to the Manhattan Center's Hammerstein Ballroom on August 2, 2008 w/ MURDER CITY MACHINE GUNS!

4) NOAH vs ROH Rematch: Bryan Danielson defeats Naomichi Marufuji via Arms Across America.

- Daizee Haze & Delirious in ring segment. Delirious, dressed up, asks Daizee Haze on a date. Rhett Titus comes out and "cockblocks Delirious". Said to be hilarious live.

5) Mike Adamle Special: The Takeshi Morishima defeats The Necro Butcher. Necro was "way over," but "the match didn't click" - JSWO

6) ROH Tag Team Championships (No DQ): Jay Briscoe & Austin Aries retain the ROH World Tag Team Championships. Jay pins Tyler after a Mark Briscoe run in.

7) ROH World Championship: Nigel McGuinness defeats Claudio Castagnoli.

Thoughts :

Let me preface this by saying ROH is my favorite wrestling organization in the world and even not-so-hot shows are much better than what is offered by the competition.

That being said, tonight's show was a bit... okay, very disappointing. It started off with an FIP title match that degenerated into a chop fest, which even prompted a "No More Chopping" chant. Just as the match was picking up some momentum with nice counters, Strong picked up the victory with a rollup. This couldn't have been more than 10-12 minutes.

The second match was probably the most enjoyable match of the night as the crowd was super into Steenrico and their antics. A really solid tag team match that featured some pretty innovative double team moves by both Steenrico and No Remorse.

The tag team scramble was a spot-fest with all the teams doing planchas and other assorted moves off the top ropes onto the floor. Crowd was really into Albright finally turning on Sweet & Sour. I think Hagadorn landed really badly when he was thrown onto the outside onto a table, hope he's okay.

Dragon-Marifuji was good but I was really hoping it would go longer with the 45 minute time limit. Story of the match was Dragon doing a move then Marifuji countering and using the same move on Danielson which was fun the first time or two but then I got a bit too predictable. Match was about 20-25 minutes.

The second half opened up with a really underwhelming "Battle of the Brawlers" encounter between Necro and Morishima. I wasn't surprised this was an extended squash but the chemistry wasn't there at all. Necro was handcuffed in not being able to bust out the hardcore offense. Definitely the worst match of the night, people in the crowd did not enjoy this.

The tag team title match got off to an iffy start when a table being set up for an eventual big spot broke. The competitors tried to salvage the table by placing it on the guard rail but that didn't work either. Eventually they found another table which didn't break but by this point, the action was grinded to a half and the crowd was getting a bit restless. Thankfully, the teams picked it up with Jacobs doing a really cool spear through the ropes onto the outside.

The crowd was pretty dead for the main event, mostly because no one thought Claudio was actually going to beat Nigel. Match started really slow which would have been fine if the crowd hadn't just witnessed a disappointing Necro-Shima match and a tag team title match that never completely got off the ground. There were even a few "Boring" chants which I thought was pretty rude. Crowd didn't really pop big until the end when Claudio hit the ricola bomb. Things picked up at the end with some nice counters and a cool flying european uppercut. I think this could have gone longer with the crowd finally pulling behind Claudio but unfortunately the carpet was yanked out when Claudio tapped out almost instantly to the London Dungeon after Nigel had targeted the hand most of the match.

Final thoughts: As I said earlier, this was a bit of a disappintment and the pacing of the overall card was rather inconsistent. With a match order announced in advance as well as the time limit to commemorate ROH moving to the Hammerstein, I was expecting much longer matches. The FIP Title Match was over much too quickly and Danielson-Marifuji could have gone longer as well. The main event would have gone over better if the crowd wasn't so restless from the prior two matches and they actually believed Claudio had a shot at winning.

Expect a new ROH logo to debut soon, at the ROH show in NYC the had many new logos around the place. So as soon as the choice one final choice it will prob the company's new logo.
