| Jay's wrestlers of the indy scene Hey guys ill be posting alot of indy guys that arent well known that should be. I wasnt you all to see the greatness of the indy wrestling scene and by showing the best wrestler you will. So first off let me introduce you all to Josh Abercrombie !! Josh Abercrombie (born April 13, 1984) is an American professional wrestler. Abercrombie primarily wrestles for Ian Rotten's IWA Mid-South. He also competed as Josh "Jug" Raymond in Wrestling Society X on MTV. IWA Mid South Abercrombie debuted for Ian Rotten's IWA Mid South promotion on October 23, 2003, against Steve Stone. He continued competing across the midwest independents and returned to IWA Mid South in October 2004. Between January and February 2005, he was involved in a feud against Ian Rotten, which included a match that Ian won as part of the NWA Indiana State title tournament. The feud culminated in a barbed wire rope match the next day. Abercrombie, afraid of being hurt, entered the contest covered in bubble wrap, which was removed by Ian a few minutes in. Rotten broke his hand during the match as he punched Abercrombie in the head. Abercrombie used that to his advantage, winning the bout via submission. Abercrombie returned to traditional technical and high-flying wrestling matches, in singles competition and sometimes teaming with Brandon Thomaselli. On April 9, 2005, he won the one-night "Simply The Best" tournament (the 6th edition) by beating UK's Jonny Storm in the first round, and winning a four-way one fall bout by pinning El Generico in a match also featuring "M-Dogg20" Matt Cross and Sonjay Dutt. Abercrombie faced IWA Mid South Lightheavyweight Champion Delirious at the promotion's debut in the New Alhambra (former ECW Arena) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 10, 2005. Abercrombie won the match, which opened the show, for his first title in the promotion. It was also his first win over Delirious, as the two had competed a few times earlier in the year for the promotion. During Summer 2005, Tyler Black became Josh's rival. They had several bouts against each other, including a 2 out of 3 falls match on August 19, 2005, which Josh won to retain his title. They met up again on September 9, 2005, in a highly-regarded Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match, where Abercrombie once again retained. In the meantime, Abercrombie won the first round of the IWA Mid South Ted Petty Invitational on September 23, 2005, pinning Jamie Noble. Abercrombie lost in the second round to Chris Sabin, but his title was not on the line. A title defense against Tyler Black took place on October 15, 2005, in a 30 Minute Iron Man Tables match. Black was able to superplex Abercrombie onto two tables as the final seconds of the match dwindled away. With Abercrombie going through both tables, Tyler was victorious and won the title. Black offered a handshake after the bout. Abercrombie accepted, but followed by spitting in Black's face. At the end of the night, Abercrombie and Brandon Thomaselli interfered in the main event, the Iron Saints (Sal and Vito Thomaselli) versus Ian Rotten and Justin Credible. Brandon and Josh turned heel, aligning themselves with the Iron Saints and put the boots to Rotten, Credible, and many of the IWA Mid South staff. The new group of Sal, Vito, Brandon Thomaselli, and Abercrombie were joined by Eddie Kingston, and aligned for a short period with IWA Mid South World Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Jacobs. Brandon and Josh explained their actions by stating that they were the hot homegrown act in the promotion during the first half of the year, but in the Summer, Tyler Black and partner Marek Brave "took their spot" in the eyes of the fans and promoters. Annoyed by this, the pair went back to their family (specifically Brandon's) and decided to join the Iron Saints' war against the promotion. On January 12, 2006, Black retained the title by pinning Abercrombie after hitting one of Josh's own moves, the Phoenix Splash. Abercrombie demanded a rematch, seeing as Black received multiple shots at his title. Black and promoter Ian Rotten agreed, with Ian making the provision that, no matter the outcome, this next bout would be the last between the two for at least six months. It would also be a match that could only end in pinfall by one competitor immediately after he hit his opponent with the Phoenix Splash. The match took place eight days later on January 20, 2006. Abercrombie hit two consecutive Phoenix Splashes and made the cover, regaining the IWA Mid South Light Heavyweight Championship. Though still viewed as a heel, the crowd started getting more behind Josh, and he was split away from the Thomasellis and Kingston. Josh's last interaction with them occurred on February 18, 2006, when Josh was forced to defend the title against Brandon. Josh pinned Brandon to retain. He held onto the title through the six month period where he and Tyler could not face each other. Their next encounter was set for the first IWA Mid South show possible, which was August 11, 2006. Josh's title was not on the line, but it was a "hair versus mustache" match. Tyler mockingly grew a mustache of his own heading into the bout, and won the match. However, Abercrombie pointed out that a line in the contract for the match stipulated it was his hair versus Tyler's mustache. Abercrombie allowed Tyler to cut his hair, but when Black went for the mustache, Josh ran off, leaving him sporting a mullet. Josh then challenged Tyler to one last match, with the title on the line, stiulating that this time, the loser would leave the promotion for six months. Black accepted and the match took place on September 30, 2006, which effectively pulled Josh out of that weekend's Ted Petty Invitational. During the bout, IWA Mid South staff member Jim Fannin pulled the referee from the ring while Black had a pinfall. In a major surprise, Jimmy Jacobs (who had left the promotion on January 20, 2006) ran in through the crowd and helped Abercrombie secure the victory. That, as well as the contract line that allowed him to keep his mustache, was part of a deal that Abercrombie and Fannin worked together, which in the same moment, allowed Fannin an opportunity to get his hands on Jacobs. Fannin's hired guns, Mitch Page and Bull Pain, attacked Jacobs, who Fannin hated for tossing the IWA World Heavyweight Championship in the trash back in Winter 2005. Abercrombie felt horrible about double-crossing his friend and trainer, but did what he felt he had to do to stay on top. Josh has been tag teaming with "Spyder" Nate Webb as their WSX tag team, The Trailer Park Boyz. Finishing and signature moves Corkscrew 450° splash Abercrombie 'N Flinch (Rolling cutter) Taliban Backpack (Double knee backbreaker, sometimes from the second rope) Shiranui Slingshot split-legged moonsault Twisting moonsault Hurricanrana Springboard 450° splash Inverted overdrive Moonsault into frog splash Backbreaker rack neckbreaker Springboard implant DDT Wrist-clutch back suplex Reverse piledriver DDT Championships and accomplishments Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship (2 times) IWA Mid-South Tag Team Championship (1 time, current) - with Mickie Knuckles and Devon Moore Price of Glory Wrestling POG Chaotic Championship (1 time) POG Heavyweight Championship (3 times, current) POG Glory Cup (2006) Underground Championship Wrestling UCW Heavyweight Championship (1 time, current) My thoughts : Josh is a very, very and let me say it one more time very good wrestler i am suprised he hasnt been in ROH yet but that could happen soon. | Re: Jay's wrestlers of the indy scene Are you only going to do independent American stars? Although I'd venture the guess that not many are interested in the Japanese stars v.v Also never really been a big fan of Abercrombie. Although because you started with him. I'd guess that you're going with mostly non-ROH guys as well? Otherwise I might've started with Nigel McLariat or Dragon | |||||||||||||||

| Re: Jay's wrestlers of the indy scene Next up guys is Mike Quackenbush !! ![]() Michael Spillane (Born March 18, 1976), better known by his ring name Mike Quackenbush, is an American professional wrestler, trainer, author & the founder of both The Wrestle Factory & CHIKARA. Quackenbush is best known as the patriarch of the CHIKARA family & for his work on the independent circuit, which has spanned for over 15 years. He has written five books: Fantastic Finishers (1998), Headquarters (2001), Secret Identity (2004) & CHIKARA Yearbook (2004 & 2007 Editions). Additionally, he pens a regular column for The Wrestler magazine entitled 'From Bell To Bell' as well as the 'International Report' in Pro Wrestling Illustrated. He is also the host of the weekly video podcast entitled "CHIKARA Podcast–A–Go–Go". Quackenbush has toured Canada, Mexico & several European countries during his career. He has invented dozens of moves & holds & was nicknamed "The Master Of A Thousand Holds" & "The Ring Wizard" by European fans. In the United States, he is typically referred to by the nickname "Lightning", a moniker that pays tribute to his wrestling hero, Jushin "Thunder" Liger. In 2004, he briefly united six championships from three different countries (USA, Mexico & Germany) into the "I-Crown"[2]. Quackenbush had back surgery in early 2006. He returned to the ring on March 18, 2006, in Essen, Germany & captured the WXW World Heavyweight title from Ares[3]. He then returned to his schedule of wrestling & training at The Wrestle Factory. Quackenbush defeated Tiger Mask IV to capture the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship on May 11, 2007. Throughout the match, Quackenbush unlaced & loosened Tiger Mask's mask, a major sign of disrespect amongst masked wrestlers. Seconds before pinning Tiger Mask, Quackenbush completely pulled off his opponent's mask. After grasping his new belt, he reached down & pulled away Tiger Mask's mask & held it up to the crowd, as if it were his real trophy, which elicited boos from the crowd & several members of the NWA. In a promo after match, as well as a news post on his website, Quackenbush explained that he did what he had to get the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship & that he was, in no way, proud of it. He said he viewed the belt as his ticket to Japan, as Japanese promotions had not booked him in any events. Quackenbush recently won the 2007 Ted Petty Invitational defeating Billy Roc, Joey Ryan & Josh Abercrombie on his way to the finals where he eliminated both Claudio Castagnoli & Chuck Taylor to win the tournament. Quackenbuch also captured the IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Championship[4] when he defeated Chuck Taylor. Quackenbush made his debut in Japan for Michinoku Puroresu, defeating Shibaten in the village of Takazawa[5]. He wrestled for the same company, the next night, defeating Rei. On December 7, 2007, in a four way elimination match against Chris Hero, Eddie Kingston & Chuck Taylor, Quackenbush put his IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Championship & IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship on the line, Quackenbush was pinned by Chuck Taylor thus capturing the IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship. It was Eddie Kingston who won the IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Championship. Quackenbush founded CHIKARA Wrestle Factory in January 2002[7] & then opened the promotion CHIKARA in May of the same year. CHIKARA Wrestle Factory assumed control of the Combat Zone Wrestling school in March of 2005. The schools separated in March 2007 with Quackenbush having served as head trainer of the joint facility for the two year duration. In March of 2006, Quackenbush launched "CHIKARA Podcast–A–Go–Go" with Wiggly[8] of Smart Wrestling Fan (the two typically co-host the program). The weekly video podcast is available through iTunes, YouTube & other online outlets. A new episode debuts every Monday night. In 2005, he won the Combat Zone Wrestling elimination tournament, Best Of The Best 5, in Philadelphia, defeating Arik Cannon, Claudio Castagnoli, B-Boy, Kevin Steen & Super Dragon. He also held the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship twice during his brief tenure with the company. In April 2007, Quackenbush made his debut for the mainstream independent wrestling promotion Ring Of Honor, at their event, The Battle Of St. Paul. Throughout the remainder of the year, he made multiple appearances, several times teaming with fellow CHIKARA wrestler Jigsaw, & competing against the likes of Claudio Castagnoli, Matt Sydal & Bryan Danielson. Finishing & Signature Moves QD – Quackendriver (Inverted Crucifix Powerbomb) QD II – Quackendriver II (Cross-Legged Reverse Piledriver) QD III – Quackendriver III (Modified Fisherman Driver) CHIKARA Special (Spinning Headscissors Armbar Followed By Hooking The Opponent's Far Leg) Quacken–Rana (Inverted Headscissors Takedown) Lightning Lock (Crossface/Over The Shoulder Cloverleaf Combination) Lightning Lock β (Inverted Cloverleaf) Lightning Lock δ (Seated Over The Shoulder Single Leg Boston Crab) Lightning Lock Ω (Over-Rotated STS) Alligator Clutch (Inverted Facelock Camel Clutch) La Quackica (Spinning Headscissors Takedown Into A Single Arm DDT Followed Into A Fujiwara Armbar) Black Tornado Slam (Snap Swinging Double Underhook Mat Slam) Chain Lightning (Triple Jump Moonsault) Déjà Vu DDT (Headscissors Takedown Into A DDT) Tail Of The Dragon DDT (Springboard Tornado DDT) Inazuma Suplex Special (Vertical Suplex Followed Into A Brainbuster) Inazuma Suplex Special II (Vertical Suplex Followed Into A Double Underhook DDT) Quacken Around (Tilt-A-Whirl Springboard Arm Drag) Quackensmash (Double Springboard Corkscrew Senton) Quack Fu (Thrust Palm Strike) Wrestlers Trained Blind Rage Claudio Castagnoli CrossBones Discount Tiger DJ Skittlez Dragon Dragon DragonFly Eddie Kingston Equinox Fire Ant Gran Akuma Hallowicked Icarus Jigsaw Jolly Roger Larry Sweeney Lince Dorado Mister ZERO Mobius Moscow Ophidian Retail Dragon Shane Storm ShareCropper Soldier Ant Tim Donst UltraMantis Black US Ape Worker Ant Wrecka Zane Madrox Championships & Accomplishments CHIKARA King Of Trios Winner (2007) – With Shane Storm & Jigsaw Combat Zone Wrestling CZW World Junior Heavyweight Championship (2) Best Of The Best 5 Winner Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Championship (1) IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship (1) Ted Petty Invitational Winner (2007) NWA Midwest NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship (1, Current) My Thoughts : A wrestler who has been around for years and just hasnt had the lucky break. He should be in the top two brands if not a main star in ROH. The man known for being the man of a thousand holds is a superb wrestler and helper of the wrestling world. Mike has trained some of the great wrestlers of today like Castagnoli a man getting a ROH world title match and Jigsaw a man in a top team in ROH. Quackenbush has beena great servent to the indy wrestling world if not just the wrestling world thats why hes my second pick. hope you enjoy | |||||||||||||||
