Guatanamo Bay ever existing in the first place tells us how flawed these things are called rights. Unfortunately none of us have any real rights, just privileges.. privileges that the government can take away whenever they please.
Guitmo has been around for over 100 years though it's not like Bush was like hey lets build this in 2002. They've owned it since something like 1897
I never actually heard of it operating as a place to hold "enemy combatants" until the Bush Administration.
I always thought it was just a Military Base until then.

It's been around though, Mrs Teddy makes it sound like Bush was the one to open it...he may have been the first to use it in such a way but he didn't create it or open it.

Yeah, I'm not real sure what to make of this one myself.
Part of me thinks that these individuals should have rights, while another part disagrees. I mean, why should these people be treated humanely if they are suspected of clearly inhumane acts.
Obviously, you don't want just anyone going in there, but c'mon now, these people (and I mean terrorists, not any other group of individuals) have no respect for any life at all, yet we're supposed to respect theirs?
It shouldn't be easy to make it into a place like this, definitely, but, in the same respect, the people in there shouldn't be afforded any luxuries, such as rights.
Harsh? Maybe, but personally, I'm not 100% sure that something like that isn't necessary. Hell, if even the THREAT of ending up there stops (or scares) people from doing what these people are suspected of doing, then it's done it's job very well.
Obviously, you don't want just anyone going in there, but c'mon now, these people (and I mean terrorists, not any other group of individuals) have no respect for any life at all, yet we're supposed to respect theirs?
The problem is that the U.S. government can stick anyone in there. All they have to do is label them an 'enemy combatant' and they don't have to answer to anyone. No one reveiws any evidence to prove that the individual did anything wrong at all.
It is all controlled by the military and they don't have to provide proof.
That is simply not acceptable.

Canada and the United States were founded on the principle of innocent until proven guilty.
It's simple give them a fair trial if found guilty you put them in prison and treat them like you would any other prisoner.
If you treat them like they treat you it only helps power them more. For every man that is tortured another 5 will sign up because they are given more reason to believe the west is evil. Bush has given Bin Laden so much ammunition for getting new recruits Bin Laden just has to go look at Guitmo that is how they treat you for doing nothing they must be stopped.
So yea.......
