Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.
“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. “The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”
Francis said in a statement that “the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people."
“We should be delivering [the request] by the end of today to our congressmen and [Secretary of the Treasury Henry] Paulson asking for this $5 billion dollar bailout,” he told CNN Wednesday.
Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger — DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow.
But the industry leaders said the issue is a nation in need. "People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said in the statement. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."
"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly."
So far, there has been no congressional reaction to the request.

Them admitting they really don't need money is just ridiculous. Seriously what the hell is wrong with Joe and Larry? (Flint is the Hustler owner) If this passes, which is defiantly wont, will be an abomination of the people and the tax payers money. Plus now-days who is going to go out and buy a 30 dollar dvd when they can download the dvd in minutes? I'm pretty sure giving them a 5 billion dollar bailout isn't going to make people have more sex either.
Haha, and that 5 billion could surely go to better use than to support horny teenagers on a lonely Saturday night. In all honesty, it's probably the last thing this country needs to waste it's money on.
Just the word "Bailout" is like the opposite of what this country is founded on, no?
Bail your fucking self out.
Yeah?
Well there are a lot of things going on that is totally opposite of what this country was founded on.
Like straying from the gold standard.

But just buckle it in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "couldn’t be done," and you’ll do it.
If you want to have a "What's wrong with America" thread, then have at it. Quality workmanship died decades ago.

You brought the subject up IMO.

Re: Porn Industry Seeks Bailout
Can no one else see the hidden agenda here?
Flint and Francis do not want a bailout, need a bailout, nor do they ever expect to actually be given one. This whole display was entirely satirical. Think about it: unlike the insurance, auto, and bank CEOs, these porn guys are self-made millionaires and owe their fortunes to a capitalist society. They HATE the idea of other businesses being bailed out. They knew they wouldn't be taken seriously by Congress or the public in general, but that's fine, because their whole point was to basically mock the idea of anyone being bailed out.
This is completely analogous to Larry Flint making that Sarah Palin porno during the election. He was obviously mocking the idea of her being a vice president, but was also capitalizing (monetarily) on the biggest political story at the time. Literally the exact same thing is being done here. As well making a mockery of the auto and bank bailouts, Flint and Francis were looking for some publicity.
The mainstream media has done an absolute horrible job of debunking this and showing it for what it really is. It's disappointing that more people haven't picked up on this and that so many are wasting their time actually trying to argue against a porn bailout that was fake to begin with.
