Lets get serious: US to allow United Arab Emirates?
So as most of you probably know now George Dubya has signed a pact with the UAE to to take over significant operations at six leading U.S. ports.
Clearly this has set off major alarms with the US citizens as well as most of the government and even the rest of the world.
So.........................
How is this a good idea for the United States? For someone who is so against terrorism this sounds like a pretty stupid idea.
Yes, I realize that the UAE (easier to use acronym) is not a terrorist group, but isnt it essentially a free bus pass for any terriorist. Not to mention that they can essentailly set up shop right in the port.
They will also be able to call good ol Osama and be like "Yo Sama. Sup B? Yo I heard that they are totally bringing in a gasoline tanker tomorrow. Lets turn New York city into a real Hell's Kitchen B!"
I know that also isnt the way Muslims speak but wouldnt that be cool?
Since us fucking around in threads doesnt generate enough debate, lets talk about Rape, drugs, murder and terrorisms.
Sound good?

Well, my girlfriend, who is Middle Eastern, is very upset about all the backlash this is causing. She thinks it's racist, and I can understand what she means. But, at the same time, I know that I would feel a little bit safer if it was a non-Middle Eastern company that's running our ports
I understand.. that's gotta be tough, someone you care about and someone who cares a lot about you.
I too feel a little uncomfortable with The UAE deal but I think it's just my whole feeling like all middle eastern people are bad, which obviously, isn't true.
Its obvious that not all Middle Eastern people are evil, but its the suggestion of what it represents that is kinda messing people up I think.
Also, I am just not too happy about the thought of the "evil-doers" having a little more access than they should.
Granted they wont be working there, but there is a very good possibility that there could be insiders or even relatives working there. Its just the idea of making it just a little easier for them to conduct their terror that bothers me.
Tom, you have already cheated on her no? Just dump the damsel. Send her an email. Girls like to be broken up with via Email.
Better yet, have a co-worker (preferably female) send it for you. haha That would go over well.

Anyway, back to the original topic, it's a tough call. Apparently, the CEO of the company is American, it just happens that the company is headquartered in the UAE. So, that makes me more comfortable, but not totally comfortable...
I am uncomfortable with this deal, but most of the people who are against this are very misinformed about the specifics of what is going on. First of all this was not President Bush's idea and he found out about it about the same time as the rest of us. Secondly, the ports security will still be provided by the U.S. government. The ports are not going to be turned completely over to the company. U.S. security will still be inspecting ships and whatever it is they do now, nothing will change as far as security from what I have read on this topic.

First of all, the President knew about this months prior to when we did. Several meetings have taken place with the UAE and he's known about their intentions and the security that was being done to oversee things. I believe the White House has even retracted their previous claim that Bush didn't know, now Newspapers have reported the opposite with a lot of evidence to support it.
It's not a race issue. That's wrong. The fact is UAE has a more then questionable track record when it comes to security. This is the same group that funded Al-Quadia AND the Taliban, tipped Osama off after 9/11 (read the 9/11 report) when we were on his heels, and allowed North Korea and Iran to sneak in uranium. It's not an issue of what their skin color is and it's horrific that Mr. Bush would imply that those who don't feel comfortable with this deal are just upset because of that.
Having said that, who cares if it were? This isn't a small legal matter where the race card is often brought up, this is all of our security. We have federal laws to prevent airports to be run by foreign interests, why is it unreasonable for sea ports to have the same rules?

Is security really at stake though? What is changing with security? It will still be ran by the U.S.
