The Bloc isnt actally part of the Coalition, Stephen Harper is leading Canadians to think so, but in actual fact the Coalition is only between the Liberals and NDP. The Bloc, however, has thrown their support behind the Coaliton.

Re: Coalition Government with NDP and Liberals (Canadian Politics)

And lets not pretend this is something new.

Harper tried to do the exact same thing in 2004 against Paul Martin, he was talking to the Bloc and the NDp behind closed doors in an attempt to form a coalition government, it nearly happened to.

I'll repeat again Harper tried to do the EXACT same thing.

And the Bloc are no longer a seperatist party, they are a left wing party that Quebec voters trust. But with Harper suspending parliament it seems that Quebec seperatists are rising again because he denied them a chance of say in government.

To be fair I dont care about that vote of confidence. In fact it think its complete bullshit. If the house doesnt trust the PM then at most it should force another election. It should not impose a non-elected government on a country, especially when the imposed government wants to input a carbon tax in a recession. The last thing this country needs is more taxes, especially when the auto sector is firing hunderds of people on a daily basis.

Re: Coalition Government with NDP and Liberals (Canadian Politics)

Technically it can easily be argued we voted for a left wing government which is what the libs, ndp and bloc are.

And the Carbon tax is basically the exact same thing Obama has been sprouting it just means that the Big Three gotta start producing better cars otherwise it will cost the consuemrs alot more to drive shitty cars, and its not like we won't buy cars but with a carbon tax we'll buy cars that are good.

And it would also give youa bunch of tax rebates and breaks if you were to "greenovate" your house. We did it it basically involves putting R-40 Insulation in your house and just making sure it doesn't waste heat. Which saves you money through tax breaks and directly paying less on your heating bills.

Re: Coalition Government with NDP and Liberals (Canadian Politics)

It doesnt matter what type of government was voted. You can argue all you want about the similarities between the two governments, but on election day Canadians voted Harper, not Laton and sure as hell not Dion! Thats why I am strong in the opinion that any house of commons vote for a government change should be taken back to the public. Any tax that big companies will face comes back to the consumer in the price of the cars, its a fact of reality. Just look at how gas prices have affected the price of food. I know you get rebates if you "greenovate" your house, but we are in an economic recession. Our government likes to play it off like Canada wont be affected, but the 500 GM workers in Oshawa laid off last week proved that Canada is getting it up the backside just like America. To "greenovate" your home it could cost up to $6000, and right now people are struggling to even but Christmas gifts for their children. Take into consideration that a rebate only give you a portion of your money back, after you meet all requirements, and its stupid to think anyone would get their home swiched over to green right now.

Re: Coalition Government with NDP and Liberals (Canadian Politics)

Actually unless you live in Harpers constinuency no you didn't vote Harper.

See we vote for individual MP's to represent you, nearly all of them have party affiliation. So these MP's choose to be apart of certain parties, if two parties decide they want to join together because they have more seats than another party together they are allowed to do this.

You didn't vote Harper or Dion or Layton neither did I, my area voted in Rod Bruinooge he represents me ...technically, he's a douche though.

And if Duceppe, Dion and Layton have more seats than Harper by constinual law they are allowed to form a government.

Re: Coalition Government with NDP and Liberals (Canadian Politics)

I know how our voting system works, but I was under the impression that Canadians voted based on their country instead of their little municipality. I voted a drunk in my riding simply because he was Conservative, while I knew the Liberal man in my riding was better than the drunk. Regardless on what your believe my voting principals are, I voted for Harper as Prime Minister, and I am shocked that you appear to be in favor of Canadians not having any say in which party runs the country. That completely destroys and point in voting. That little lesson on how our country votes still does not address the issues of a carbon tax and how it would be possible for Canadians to go green when it comes to their homes in the middle of an economic recession.

I've got to say this.

I like the Liberals. I also like the NDP. May I say, I love them.

And I would have no problem with a coalition of them being in power.

What I DON'T like. Is how they will take it. Without a single vote for this Coalition, they could be in power, just like that. If this happened in America, there would be a big uproar. We should not allow this group who no one has voted for take power without a single vote. That is despicable, in my opinion.

This is actually perfectly legal, check out Europe this happens ALL the time there.

Wiki "The Magic Formula", it's how the Swiss have governed for the past 50 years a...coalition.

I know it's legal, I just think it's despicable. When did I say it's illegal?
