This is a discussion on WC's Presidential Poll within the General Discussion forums, part of the Non Wrestling Forums category; Obama seems like the guy who is less likely to bring about another world war, so if I could I ...

Isn't anyone concerned that Obama is essentially a socialist with communist ideas?
Tax the rich more? Why?
Since when should people be penalized for making too much money? It's a real shame that America is coming to this and believe that this is a good idea.

Apparently not, considering the poll in this thread (and all the real polls around the country)...
Either that, or Obama isn't really a socialist...
Or one more possibility: maybe people have just become warmed to the idea of socialism?
All coherent thought leads me to conclude that Obama isn't a socialist, but the McCain campaign's self-inflicted dilemma is that they haven't been forthcoming with all the implications they keep making. They've done enough to label Obama as socialist (and obviously, that label has stuck amongst people already supporting McCain, making it largely irrelevant), but they haven't done a good job explaining WHY this is a bad thing. Unfortunately for McCain, people are actually paying more attention this time around. They've heard what Obama's economic plans actually are, and frankly, people find them more appealing than McCain's.
Rather than just constructing caricatures of Obama or labeling Obama, McCain (and anyone using these arguments as a reason why not to vote for Obama) needs to explain what specifically are the negatives of Obama's economic plans. Now I'm not suggesting that this can't be done, but refusing to get to specifics and just broadly labeling Obama as a socialist is clearly a losing strategy. As I said, voters are paying more attention this time around.

McCain all the way.
That is fear mongering straight from O'Reilly or Limbaugh right there.
I fell for crap like this in 2000 and 2004. The Neo-Cons are not going to fool me this time.
Our Education system has been a Socialist system since day one and no one ever says anything about that. Free education is a right but not free healthcare? Something is wrong with that picture.
Call it socialism, call it what you will.
I am tired of the same old crap we have saw the last 8 years and there is no way I am voting for 4 more years of it.
John McCain voted with George W. Bush over 90% of the time. No thanks.
A vote for John McCain is a vote for George W. Bush and his old failed policies.
Vote Change. Vote Barack Obama.

Maybe we should dig up that old blog called the Constitution to see if there is anything about socialism in there....
lawl.
How is McCain's economic plan not socialism?
See how meaningless that is? The burden of proof is on the person making the allegation. And again, the argument McCain and his supporters should be making is why Obama's plan is worse for the American economy than McCain's is, rather than just repeatedly and mindlessly parroting the empty label of "socialism".
Socialism, as a concept, has a generally negative connotation in American society, but as I've said repeatedly, because the voting public is paying much more attention this time around, it's important to explain WHY Obama's policies (whether you call them socialist or not) are bad for us.
This is to say, if I were to concede that Obama is a socialist...then what? Why is that a bad thing? What is your underlying point, if you even have one?
