Money spent on Universal Healthcare is far better than what American taxes go to.
Exactly!
You spend how many billions on 2 separate wars, but don't provide Universal Health Care? You're the fucking United States of America, you should have been the FIRST to provide your citizins with Universal Health Care!!
I am obviously biased here, because I grew up with free medicare, and consider it a right. If I lived just 2 hours south, across the border, my family would be bankrupt due to my medical bills. That hardly seems right for the self proclaimed, 'Greatest Country in the World.'
Re: Health Insurance: A right, a privilege or a responsibility?
America is hardly the greatest anything.
Living standards in the US are not even in the top 25 amongst European nations Cities.
Also, the absolutely horrible public schooling is just laughable. I could go on forever, but for some reason a lot of Americans still believe there country to be the greatest, yet no one who lives outside it is narrow minded enough to see what they see with there horrid tunnel vision that sees nothing outside there own pitiful society.
Not bashing any American members here..Just certain aspects of the country, and how the majority is.

As much as I dislike the current direction and condition of America, I will have to resepctfully disagree with you on this.
I think America is the greatest in a lot of things.
Although I am admittedly biased.

Perhaps that was a bit of an over shot. Granted, there are probably still a decent amount of leading points. As far as colleges go, I'm quite a fan of MIT and most of the Ivy League; So I'll give America respect on that. I'm sure there's probably others that you could point out, as well.

I think basic medical care is a right. I don't know what universal health care says about elective type procedures. But I don't think those should be covered.
I think universal health care has it's good sides and bad. I think the quality of care suffers.
Find a way to make it universal and keep a high standard of care and I'm all for it.
I just don't want to have to wait weeks to see a doctor.
Re: Health Insurance: A right, a privilege or a responsibility?
Most countries with universal healthcare still have very, and in many equal or in some fields better quality and care. Also, I don't recall many non third world countries making you wait for weeks to see a doctor.

I had heard that in Canada you have to wait for weeks sometimes for certain procedures.
I think to help with this though, the Canadian Government said they would pay for some people to have surgery at U.S. hospitals near Canada.

That's not the impression I was under. Although I do not claim to be the universal healthcare guru.
A Canadian friend told me she had to wait like 2 weeks. So it's not like I'm quoting some legitimate news source.
Re: Health Insurance: A right, a privilege or a responsibility?
I would not rank Canada at the top of the food chain as far as Health Care goes.
Plus, would you rather wait two weeks, or not be able to get it at all due two not having enough money for it? At least there, you can get it without spending your life's savings for surgery.
Either way, as said..I would not rank Canada at the highest of Healthcare. Higher than US, I suppose. But that's not hard.

Our actual medical care is top notch.
The way we have to pay for it is not.
