Abortion
Do you consider it to be murder? Is a politician's stance on the issue an important factor that helps you decide who to vote for in gubernatorial and/or presidential elections? Do you agree with the Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade? Is abortion a legal, ethical, or a moral question?
I was just curious what everyone's views on it are (and please, post more that just simplistically labeling yourself as pro-life or pro-choice).
We consider someone dead after the heart stops right? Well wouldnt we consider the person alive when the heart starts to beat? The heart starts to beat within 22 days, and most people dont even know they are pregnant before then.

Actually, no. It's not that simple. Depending on where you live, you are legally dead only after being brain-dead, or after having been missing for a large amount of time. There are actually several different scenarios under which someone can be considered legally dead without it being confirmed that their heart has stopped.

...the government doesn't. Fetuses don't have SSN's, and we don't have obituaries for miscarriages. Labeling a fetus as a living organism isn't synonymous with birth.

ok, so with this logic, as long as the person does not have a ssn then its free game?

i think there should be the option to abort. idk if i could go ahead and let my gf/wife get an abortion, but atleast let there be a choice. what about rape victims, they have no choice in whether they have sex, so why should they suffer and give birth to the product of their rape? is that fair for the child? growing up and either living knowing they're father was a rapist, or not knowing that his real father is a rapist. the burden of the mother would be immense, just looking at her child, who she may love whole heartedly, but still looks at them and is reminded of a traumatic experience.
there may be certain circumstances, but people always bring that up. What about rape? what about if the baby is retarded? and so on, but its just a excuse for people to feel better about it.
There is 1.3 million abortions performed each year in the United States. How many of those do you think was because of rape?
