Doormen/ Bouncers

What's your opinion about nightclub/bar doormen/bouncers?

I never had any particular problems with them except for one bar where the roided jack ass on the door wouldn't let me in despite the fact I'd just gone outside for a short while to go to a cashpoint.

I had a group of 15-20 people in the bar as well so just waved through the window at them. Despite them not being that busy when my party came to the door and threatened to leave thus costing his employers loads of cash for loss of our drinks for the night he still wouldn't let me back in. (his original "thing" was that it wasn't policy to let in single guys but once my party were there it just became a battle of wills that he wasn't willing to give up).

We just left and went to another bar in the end although some of my party (unwisely?) gave him quite a bit of verbal as we left!!

That is retarded. You should have told him you know me and he would have let you right in....

I have a friend who is a bouncer at a pretty popular bar in Boston. He continuously rips the place and its patrons off. He will tell people its a 10 dollar cover charge when its more like 5. Or he will start charging 10 bucks at 8 when he isnt supposed to charge until 10pm.

He rakes in a ton of cash each week by messing with drunk people.

I disagree though with that whole mentality of "lettting guys in twice" and shit. I mean, will you ever go to that bar again? Will you ever recommend that bar to someone?

Thats just stupid business, but the owner most likely has no idea its happening.

I've seen all kinds. I have a couple friends who are bouncers at different places.. I've seen some of the biggest pricks ever and then some pretty decent guys. I guess it depends on where you go. I've never been thrown out of a place before though, I assume I'd be pissed.

It seems like some of these assholes really get off on this.

People hardly ever give me shit because I dress up like Neo from the Matrix. But when they do, things go in slow motion and reality for them is never the same.

I've bounced b4, we got a fairly bad press because in most circumstances the bar sets the standards and you just have to play to them. And if you ever go out sober with a bunch of your drunk mates you'll realise why bouncers have to be up-for-it at any moment. A lot of the cockiness and arrogance is neccesary so problems don't happen. But on the flip-side half the people I worked with were Dicks.
