Your $600 payday from the government

Starting this week, we will be receiving the $600 rebate check from the good ol' government. Two questions: firstly, what are you going to spend it on (or just put it in the bank?). Secondly, do you think this will do anything to stimulate the economy?

I am curious, because many of us have debts on our credit cards, etc...will the $600 go to just pay those off, or go towards something new like a game system or a new car....or a vacation perhaps? Or maybe you'll just stick it in your savings account and watch the interest accrue.

My wife would like to think it's going towards nonsense items, but it will go towards bills, rent, food.. basically necessities. The idea of it being a economic stimulus payment and people going out and spending it at retail stores to boost their business, I think with the state of the economy, that's not what it's going to e used for by most.

If they wanted it to be used to buy useless junk, then they should have sent everyone a visa or mastercard gift card or soemthing to that eefect

im just going to cash it for like $300 then put $300 in the bank to use on whatever. Then with the cash im just going to spend it at the bar and on useless shit like scratch tickets and food. i got enough money in the bank that the $600 aint going to make me want to go out and buy stupid shit cuz i do that already.

I'm not getting a full $600 - I think it was maximum of $600 / minimum $300 for single taxpayers for those in the right salary range. Then just double that for the married folks.
I'm going to put whatever I get towards the Bar Exam - which is slowly killing me already.

all mine is going towards credit card bills, mine will be mailed out friday and its direct deposited so i should get it quite soon

Right. Those who made under $35,000 a year will only be getting $300. Those who made between $35,000 & $69,999 will be getting back $600. If you made over $70,000, you will only get $350 because there's a $150 penalty for actually being successful.

I'll probably hold onto mine until about June 8th, at which point I'll buy an iPhone. Or it might go towards an ATV. I don't freaking know.

On a side note, I was supposed to get the money today, according to their newly revised chart, and I definitely did not get it. Stupid government.

Paper checks will also go out based on Social Security number. For Social Security numbers ending in 00 through 09, the paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and will continue through May 16. A similar process will be repeated in the following weeks.
