Overly helpful sales people

I fucking hate them.

See, I'm the kind of person where it will usually take me 1-2 month to make the most simplistic of purchases. I'm extremely picky with my things, and quite frankly, even if I need something, I won't buy it until there's one that fits me exactly.

So today, I'm doing my usual research on a product, this time for a GPS unit. I'm looking at the Garmin's and the TomTom's at Best Buy, playing around with each. And some dumb overly-zealous sales lady just walks up to me and is showing me how all of them work. Of course, she's pushing me towards the $749.99 TomTom unit. Finally, after annoying me for a good 20 MINUTES I tell her that I just want to browse. The idiot didn't take a hint, and she just continued to "show me how they worked." So I just left Best Buy, still GPS-less.

Hello, my name is Terry, and yes, I would still have relations with Miss Spears.

Re: Overly helpful sales people

don't they make commission? Not shocking that they act like annoying bastards...

If the person's boss saw them not being over the top into the customers I'm sure they'd get in trouble for that too.

Either way they are annoying as fuck....

Re: Overly helpful sales people

Yeah, overly helpful people are annoying as hell. Especially when you're naturally quiet, reserved, and just don't feel like being bothered. But god help you if you actually need their help. They will try and drag you all over a store showing you items you really didn't ask for and maybe eventually showing you a product that you requested. I really hate going to furniture stores because you go in and ask for a small love seat and they try to push an entire living room set off on you.

This is why I do a lot of shopping on the net now. Thank god for Ebay...

Re: Overly helpful sales people

I totally agree. I find it incredibly rude. If I needed help, Id ask. And just cause you think that one particular item is the best doesnt mean I will too, so stop forcing your opinions on me. Grr!

Re: Overly helpful sales people

Agree with the consensus here.

I used to be a sales clerk at K-Mart, Target, you know all the major retailers. I would typically leave people alone if they were just looking intently at the objects on the shelves. But if they were looking around aimlessly, talking to themselves, or looked confused, then I'd walk over and ask them for help.

I can't tell you how many times I'm thumbing through merchandise, just browsing and people walk up and say "Do you need any help?" I just want to say: yeah, help me pay for this, numbnuts.

Re: Overly helpful sales people

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 350 for those concerned. I did it online, without any annoying sales clerks.

Re: Overly helpful sales people

I used to work at Office Max, a long time ago...It's not really the sales peoples fault, they have to do it, they don't want too, but they know they will get a slap on the wrist if they don't. I have had to do it to millions of people, I hate it, but you gotta do it. I don't see what's so wrong about someone asking if you need help though, unless if you say that you don't need help and they still insist on helping you, but usually that's not the case. Just my two cents.
