I am not going to get too far into this, but many Sociologists argue that the contraceptive revolution has been one of the major factors in the breakdown of the institution of marriage in American society and furthurmore has been been very damaging to American society in several other aspects.

Birth control has been around for thousands of years. Prior to condoms, it was animal intestine. Even when condoms weren't used, people were well aware of the rhythm method.

I think that the traditional family hasn't changed at all behaviorally. The only thing that has changed is that women are no longer treated as servants, meaning they're not expected to stand by their man when he cheats, punches, or does something else to disrespect them.

they still stay with assholes way too often though.. A lot of my female friends, it take them forever to give a guy up. Two or three breakups before it's finally over. A shame.

I actually think the increased divorce rates in the U.S. are a combination of Terry's point (women not putting up with bullshit like they used to) AND people rushing into marriage before they are ready.

It also seems like people outside of NY are in much more of a rush to get married. So many people that I meet that have relocated to NY got married at young ages.

However, I'm engaged at 27, and I'm the only one of my high school friends who is even CLOSE to being married. One of my friends has a serious girlfriend of 3 years, and another friend has an on-again, off-again girlfriend of
2-3 years, and the other 15-20 people from high school that I hang out with regularly are all single or in relationships of less than a year.


It's so weird to us how people from outside of NY are in such a rush to get married...

I'm not so much in a rush.. really, I'd just like to find someone I can kinda settle down with a bit, someone I want get tired of so easily.. if that makes sense.

I always cringe when I see these young couples and one or both of them think it's going to last forever..

The radio is the most important thing ever. If people never had it in the past, they would have died of boredom and tried to kill my ancestors. We're grateful for that, and we're also grateful for the television and the internet.
