Rep Power: 14 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Kids with Autism WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced a $5.9 million study in six states to try to find the causes of autism. The study, the next of the agency's promised initiatives to look more closely at the disorder, would look for factors that may put children at risk for autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities, the CDC said. It said 2,700 children aged 2 to 5 and their parents would take part in the five-year study. Researchers will look for infections or abnormal responses to infections in the child or parents, genetic factors, the mother's reproductive history, hormone levels, potential gastrointestinal problems in the child and other factors. "We hope this national study will help us learn more about the characteristics of children with ASDs, factors associated with developmental delays, and how genes and the environment may affect child development," said Dr. Jose Cordero, director of CDC's National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. "By conducting the study in six different geographic areas across the country with diverse populations and by identifying children from multiple sources in each community, we hope to have a study sample that more closely represents children with ASDs, other developmental problems, and typical development across the country," Cordero added in a statement. Autism spectrum disorders include a range of conditions marked by repetitive behaviors and social and communication problems. In May the CDC said the first national surveys of autism showed the condition occurs in up to 1 in every 175 children. The surveys indicated that boys were nearly four times more likely to have been diagnosed with autism than girls and that Hispanic children were less likely to have an autism diagnosis. The causes of autism are not clear and it is not clear whether the condition has become more common. Source: Yahoo | |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() ![]() | Autism could possibly be caused by vaccinations, one called Thimerosal, an additive containing 49.6 percent mercury, the material safety data on this was located at the El Lilly Pharmaceutical company in Indianapolis. This information states that the Pharmaceutical industry had prior knowloedge on the dangers of this vaccine but the industry kept the additive in the vaccines for years even though they had warnings of nuerological damage that might occur in children who were required to get the 21 goverment mandated vaccines in order to attend school. It began in the early 90's when thousands of children were being diagnosed with Autism, Autism rates have gone up to a whopping 10,000 percent increase in the last 12 years and numerous independent studies have confirmed a link between Thimerosal and Autism. The US goverment in the year 2000 held a meeting to discuss their own studies on the links between the additive and Autism but the meeting was secret. (odd) but recently there was a transcript made public of these meetings and these transcripts prove that the US goverment and the Pharmaceutical industry knew of the dangers of Thimerosal but covered it up. and vaccinations are supposed to protect children........sure........w/e |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() ![]() | alright sorry for the double post but I checked out the site and i checked out the vaccines section and it states that a national board of the institute of medicine released a report in may of 2004 concluding that there is no link between autism and vaccines BUT if you read carefully the Autism Society of America does not support the conclusions and is looking for more research. Here is a ASA statement on vaccines and autism: "We do know that vaccines have significantly reduced life-threatening diseases in children around the globe. What we don't know is if there is an issue regarding the amount, the timing, or the medium used to deliver the vaccines that would result in a child developing autism or other developmental disorders. The Autism Society of America strongly supports research to determine if, in fact, there is a correlation. Until that research is performed and replicated, vaccines continue to be indicated." - March 2001, Autism Society of America thats all i could find at the moment. |
