How will having a Universal Healthcare plan help you and I?
I see people everyday that are all gung-ho about wanting a universal health care plan, but I'm not sure how it'll help me ... To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. . I'm covered already, so I don't need insurance. You can't tell me it's going to lower the costs even lower; it goes entirely against free market philosophy. What is the advantage of it?
Re: How will having a Universal Healthcare plan help you and I?
Isn't the advantage that someone whom is stuck without healthcare (a lot of college students who are no longer covered under their parents) is able to be treated without adding on to their debt? It's like killing someone before they ever get started.
Re: How will having a Universal Healthcare plan help you and I?
A lot of people don't have medical insurance in this country and medical costs are one of the major factors in debt. In the past employers offered very good medical plans for their employees but now none of them do.
Another tidbit. America is the only industrialized nation in the WORLD without universal health-care.

Right. It seems like the majority of Americans are thinking this is going to their lower their health insurance costs, which couldn't be farther from the truth. You have the government controlling which drugs are allowed on the market, the patents handed out, and potentially also our health insurance?! It's a recipe for continuous record breaking health care costs.
For the record, I strongly feel that if someone does not have health care insurance, it's their own fault.

Do you understand the concept of Universal Healthcare?
In most of Europe the people have no medical costs because it is all paid for by the government. They have higher taxes though. There is no need for insurance because medical services and prescriptions are provided by the government for free.

It's not that employers cannot and do not offer good medical plans, it's that they can't. Unless a company is absorbing the full cost, which isn't at all possible for the majority of companies, the employees are going to want the lowest price possible for their health care coverage, which leaves you with co-pays and deductibles out the wazoo.
But lets look at the further cause. I'll use the company I work for as an example. In our most recent contract period with our health care coverage provider (United Healthcare Group), they were forced to pay out $1.13 for every $1.00 paid to them. They took a 12% loss! It's not UHC fault that our rates are going up. They're a business out to make money. What would make you think the Government would be able to do better? And further, we're already looking at the record high deficits that need fixed. Adding on healthcare, which has proven to be quite unprofitable, how can you expect the government to absorb the cost?

DUH! My question is how will it save me money? We know the government isn't efficient. We know they're not responsible with our money. Why in the hell would I would to pay additional taxes for health care, and in the process absolutely destroy the free market economy that made the nation the best place to live in?

The Government of every other Industrialized country in the world is doing so.
Why can't we?

That same free market economy is now destroying the best place to live.
Our free market economy has went crazy.
What we have now cannot even be called Capitalism anymore.

How is a college student whom is only working 20-30 hours a week going to get coverage? It's not offered from their employer, obviously.. You can't continue to fuck them over in this country when they are the only ones trying to make themselves better.. meanwhile, you have millions of people sitting on their ass collecting welfare and undeserved social security.
