Biggest Christ was struck by lightning

This was the dramatic scene as the world's largest statue of Jesus was hit by lightning.


The bolt parted the thunderclouds over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to strike Christ the Redeemer.
The statue is 130ft tall, is made of 700 tons of reinforced concrete and stands atop the 2,296ft Corcovado mountain overlooking the city.


It was named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.


Sunday's storm caused havoc in Rio, felling trees in several neighbourhoods - but did not damage the statue.
This amazing photograph gives whole new meaning to the phrase "May God strike me with lightning if..."

Lightning tends to hit high things.....it's not a sign, it's just hit because it's on a high mountain and high objects attracts lightning. Put a tree there and the same thing would have happened.

I tend to agree with LadyHotRod. You know how many times a year that thing probably gets hit? Its the highest point of a big ass hill.

Still a pretty sweet photograph and a real rare capture.

Thats a great picture though.

The storm felled several trees in the area also? It may be a little weirder if the statue was the only thing to be hit but people are obviously stupid. Come on, just a random coincidence.

The lightning hit the statue because it was a sign from God. Our lord and savior is sending us a message, and that message is to "believe".
